This is a ridge trail that simultaneously offers views of Salt Lake City to the west looking down Emigration Canyon and views east of Little Dell Reservoir and the often snowcapped Bald Mountain. The trail starts at the high point of Emigration Canyon Rd and begins with a short steep climb to the ridge. It ends near Birch Springs. Setup a shuttle at Affleck Park if you only want to do it one way,

Nice trail, not very busy

1/11/20 - The snow for the first mile or so is packed, spikes are probably sufficient. Afterward the snow gets deep and large snowshoes are needed. At times it was about waist deep. I could only see a faint trail, which I lost 3 miles in. Progression is in fairly thick bramble. Lots of animal tracks. Looks to be very safe from avalanche risk, but also very isolated - the first mile is fairly busy but afterward it didn’t look like anyone had been there in a least a week.

Way better places to go in SLC area. It's super overgrown, windy, exposed, no dogs, hunters. View are sweeping, but they're of the scrubby hills. Not like the gorgeous cottonwood granite mountains. Don't even try in winter without showshoes or skins.

Went up to Little Mountain and kept pushing on to Lookout Peak. Was rewarded with excellent and beautiful views of city creek/ emigration canyon.

Until about a mile in the trail is pretty open and clear of snow but a bit muddy. Beyond that it’s mostly snow covered and heavily overgrown with a lot of downed scrub oak across the trail. Beyond the intersection with the Killyons Canyon trail the trail becomes a creek due to runoff.

Nice area for snowshoeing, Saw 4 Elk, 1 Moose and 1 Bald Eagle. Very windy and cold up on the ridge near Little Mountain Peak.

Definitely better trails to do. The last part before you get to Afflek Park is nice but muddy and steep downhill. We went back via Kiilyon Canyon to see some different scenery. But this led us to the highway and we had to walk back along the highway to our car. Yuck. Don’t do that. It would better to do the Lookout Point Trail that leaves from the campsite in Affleck Park. Just a suggestion.
