From Vernal, travel north on Hwy 191 about 36 miles to its intersection with UT Hwy 44. At the well-signed intersection, turn right (you will actually still be on Hwy 191) and travel another 10 miles. Immediately after crossing over Flaming Gorge Dam, a signed right will take you down to the access parking area. One needs to park several hundred feet above the river and walk a few minutes down a well traveled series of switchbacks to the boat launch ramp. The trail begins here just past the restrooms. Please remember that a Recreation Pass is required for parking.

nice hike along the river. several access points where we could get to the water so my dog could swim. i would suggest an early morning start so you get some shade. wear pants, the trail is over grown in several places. great views. water is clear so you can see trout from the trail.

Great little out and back. Stairway down to the trailhead is a bit steep. You can also take the path from the top of the parking lot down to the trailhead. I went about 1/2 way so an out & back. Beautiful scenery and lots of fish in the river.

Took the kids on a short section of it today, Dec 8th 2018. It’s a beautiful area and the trail goes ride down by the river. The start is fairly step for us wrangling a 4 and 2 year old, but otherwise, it’s great.

no snakes this time of year. beautiful and all to myself with the exception of a few fishermen on the river. trail was dry.

So beautiful! We had kids with us so it was a bit tricky at first because it has a couple spots that are a little steep. But once you get to the bottom at the river it is worth it. We did find a snake so keep a look out.

Little Hole is a very nice out and back hike. As many people have already mentioned, there are a lot of snakes, so it's good to be wary. if you start at the dam, there is no public restroom until mile 5.5 or so, just be aware and plan accordingly. The trail is very rocky at some points and gets a decent amount of sun, but there are also little shady groves here and there. Enjoy!

Beautiful hike for the family. My ten year old loved it but my 6 year old got tired quickly. Nice places for picnics along the way. Some parts of the trail were really rocky and was hard on the ankles. Overall, beautiful hike!

It’s an amazing fishing area! As you are casting you can hear hawks hunting above you. Be warned, watch out for rattlesnakes they are sparse but can be found in the canyon.

We did the Green River float on a 5 man raft this weekend. We rented a raft from the Flaming Gorge Resort, but would've preferred to rent from one of the rental places in Dutch John. The FGR is a little further away. This section of the river is pretty easy to float for most families. We took 5 kids, ages 5-12 with us. As long as you know that you should take the right hand side on most of the rapids, but take the left hand side on the 7th rapid, called "Monther-in-law." There is a sign a few hundred yards before on the right hand side telling you which rapid you are approaching. None of the rapids were very dangerous, but a few chances to get hung up on rocks. If you paddle through the slow water, the float takes about 1 1/2 - 2 hours. If you stop and eat or jump of the rocks, plan on 3 hours.

Awesome and stunning trail alongside the Green River starting immediately south of the Flaming Gorge Dam. Be aware there are multiple wading opportunities right now due to high water. Missing pieces of walkway and trail along the way so you will get wet right now. Needs some trail work , but it is So worth some wet boots. Friendly rafters and fisherman along the way to have fun with! Also note: the first and last .5 mile is all the elevation loss and gain.

I lived in Dutch John when I was a teenager so this trail will always be amazing to me. Great scenery, snooty fish and fishermen in various moods. And many people in rafts.

I have both hiked and floated this trail from Flaming Gorge Dam to Little Hole. Wonderful trip either way. Great trout fishing on a premier fly fishing stream.
