Great trail- well groomed and easy to moderate climbing at the beginning. Saw many families with younger children. We got to see some moose at lake Catherine which was awesome! Definitely go early - we started at 8 and on our way back there was a lot more foot traffic.

We went on this hike at 9:30 am on a Sunday in mid-July and it wasn't too hot. Lots of the hike was shaded and pretty pleasant. Lots of wildflowers and mosquitoes. The trail was very crowded, which wasn't great, but there was plenty of space to be somewhat alone at the lake. Very beautiful.

Hiked Lake Mary Trail this morning (7/11/2020). Absolutely gorgeous trail with wildflowers full bloom topped with the fresh smell of pine. Probably the best and well maintained trail I have seen by far. ⁣ ⁣ It's about 5 miles in and out if you decide to make it to Lake Catherine. Otherwise it will be around 2.5 miles in and out to Lake Mary. Started fairly early around 7:45am. Probably there were 2 rows of cars at the parking lot that time. The Lake and the trail wasn't overly crowded but as day progresses, the whole place fills up pretty fast. Roughly 1400ft elevation gained. ⁣ ⁣ First half mile is the hardest part. Felt pretty steep but definitely doable even for an armature hiker like me. But it gets better and fairly easy after that. Plenty of shades throughout the whole trail. The only downside would be bugs and mosquitoes. It's not that awful but always helpful to have a bug spray with you. ⁣

Only complaints: Not a lot of shade and quite a few bugs once you get to the lake. The trails is wide, making it easy to socially distance, and there weren’t a ton of people there on the Wednesday afternoon that we hiked it. The wildflowers and beautiful, and the views were spectacular! You can also see Lake Martha and Dog Lake by adding short distances to your hike.

Nice hike for kids 5 and up. Uphill there and downhill on the way back. Beautiful lake to have lunch at. No swimming allowed. Gets busy. Go on a week day.

Super busy but that is to be expected for a holiday weekend. Family friendly short hike. At times steep and the trail is rocky. The lake is beautiful and the water wasn’t as cold as expected. No swimming allowed though. Fun to hike the same runs we ski in the winter.

This was a fantastic hike! It was very crowded due to the holiday weekend with families with toddlers to seniors to running packs, but the crowds thinned out when we went from Lake Mary to Lake Martha and then on to Lake Catherine. Each has its own charm and beauty. There is some mud and snow but not impassable even for kids.

Great trail and gorgeous views but incredibly busy. We went on a Thursday early afternoon and there were tons of people. My GPS logged closer to 6 miles going up to Lake Catherine.

This was a great family-friendly hike. My 4-year-old walked the entire way and only needed a few small breaks. It does have some steep inclines. Portions of the hike are shaded but the majority is in the sun so I would recommend arriving early for the best shade. We saw plenty of ground squirrels, chipmunks, and even a salamander up by Lake Mary. We also took the short detour to Dog Lake which was small but beautiful.
