The trail then descends 300 feet down into the Burnt Fork drainage before the final climb to Island Lake. After you reach Island Lake 8.3 miles the trail continues another 2 miles to a mountain pass where it joins a trail the drops down into the South Slope.

Day hiked to Island lake from Kabell Lake. The trail was steep over Kabell ridge but the view and the lake was worth it.
