Super easy and fun trail that crosses streams multiple times, has wide open pastures, and a narrow canyon towards the end. Definitely recommend!

Mostly flat, well defined trail with decent shade. It has some great history and plenty of stunning views. Easy and not too busy.

Very much enjoyed Josie Morris cabin area. Cabin itself is...meh...but much more canyon areas to see if you follow small dirt trails up Hog Canyon and Box Canyon. Fairly short, relatively easy and lots of little spots to explore with kids and some cool scramble opportunities for teens/adults. Hog Canyon was our favorite with spring/small creek flowing in the canyon in late July and partially shaded making a hot afternoon very fun. Picnic tables and pit toilets were by the cabin. Lots of shade for a good lunch spot.

A different side of the park. I was surprised to see the trees and tall grasses on this trail after seeing the visitors center. The hike is easy and partly shady. Kids enjoyed climbing some of the rocks and hearing their voice echo in the canyon at the end of the trail.

This was a fun short walk. The cabin and Josie’s story were really amazing, and the short hike that is partially shaded was great as well. The drive to the end is dirt for a couple miles but well maintained and not a problem for our minivan.

Did this hike yesterday. Very simple, but such an incredibly peaceful spot. Read some of the history before you do the hike. Rarely have I felt so much peace. Saw a wild deer. Back into the canyon is beautiful surrounded by huge boulders and the canyon walls. We were all alone on the hike- which made it more peaceful. I think the road is closing today for maintenance.

We took the trail to Box Canyon then continued down past three more canyons. The fifth canyon was especially lovely. LOTS of bio soil and growth, so tread lightly in the canyon. The trail itself, past Box Canyon is mostly a wildlife trail. I don’t believe it has a name, so we called it BS trail in honor of the many many cow pies on the ground. We did come to two or three forks in the trail and always stayed to the left. The canyons were cool, but the desert trail is best suited for spring and fall hiking.

This trail was okay. Hog Canyon was a bit overgrown, but my kids loved scrambling up the walls at the end.

Enjoyed this hike with a 3 and 5 year old. Good rocks to scramble around and a nice level path back into the canyon with spectacular sights and tree cover for most of the hike. The canyon was nice and cool during a hot day.

The hike behind the cabin is beautiful and serene. The other hike I enjoyed less. Seemed like a good place for kids to run since it had a lot of trail meanders.

Like others have said. Great hike in cooler shade to the small inner canyons. I loved the history behind Jose's cabin. Did the hike with two crabby girls (9 and 11) and afterwards they loved it!
