Getting There

Canyonlands National Park charges a fee to enter. Fees are $30 per vehicle or $25 per motorcycle. If you are entering on foot or bike the fee is $15 per person. You can also purchase a park specific annual pass for $55. Breathtaking sunset hike on the rim of Islands in the Sky. Accessibility: According to the park website, to the first overlook the trail is paved concrete and wheelchair and stroller friendly. It has been marked with a waypoint. Past that, there are stairs and it turns into traversing rocky cliff edges. The width is typically at least four feet wide on the paved section and the estimated grade there is mostly gentle (all 3% or less).

Mind blowing views. It is very much worth doing this walk vs taking in the view from the parking lot.

Wide trail makes it easy to stay back from the edge if heights make you squeamish. Would probably just do the overlook, the trail is really easy but would recommend the White Rim trail over this one if you’re trying to hike to closer/better views. We went this week and very little snow/moderately crowded. Not sure if it was due to covid or winter pricing, but there was no fee to enter the park.

HikingFeeGreat!

You get a great view of the canyons from the overlook near the parking, so not missing out there if you can’t make the hike—but if you have the time and ability, the trail is still very rewarding. Not because the end view is so much different from the overlook, but because of the rock formations, desert foliage, built in steps, spotting stone cairns to guide your path, and the thrill of walking near the plateau’s edge (but not too near!) that you experience along the way. Easy and rewarding trail overall with option to scramble up some rocks at the end if you’d like. While other hikes were a bit icy this weekend, I did not run into any slippery patches during an afternoon hike here on 1/18/21. Was not overcrowded when I went.

It was a pretty easy week for avid hikers, really good family hike. Was a little snowy when we went out in January, but the final view was one of my favorites! And I had been to all the other National Parks in UT.

Pretty much an easy trail, with some slick spots due to ice. Of course I was the idiot walking with Nike Free’s on my feet. This is an excellent trail for young children it’s kind of like a playground with beautiful views.

Easy to follow. I definitely recommend hiking to the end of the trail and climbing on top of the boulders at the end—unbelievable views.

HikingGreat!

Did this hike on 12/26. The trail was pretty well maintained. Canyonlands National Park is an awesome place so definitely don’t forget to bring your camera. There are several view points along the rim walk - watch footing so you don’t slip off the cliffs! It was about a mile round trip, it wasn’t difficult at all.
