The San Juan River makes a series of tight turns - goosenecks - below this viewpoint. The river has carved a deep canyon here, dropping about 1,000 feet below the viewpoint. Geologists say this erosion has uncovered a rock record exposing some 300 million years of time. The state park offers spectacular views of the goosenecks, officially known as an entrenched meander. Over a distance of one and a half miles, the San Juan River flows for more than six miles through the

Wonderful geological phenomenon. The best view is at the start point. There's a dirt road that's 20-30 yards from the rim and parallels it to it's end/trail end. Or you can walk along the rim weaving around the sage brush. The views of the area are amazing.

This is for the trail only. it cost $5 to see the view. We added a lunch break and then decided too just camp there for the night (another $5). Glad we did. Sunset and sunrise were the best we've seen on the trip. Over all I would give it, including the campground, 5 stars. We would have stayed the night before we viewed monument valley and return that night.

Incredible experience to walk right up to the edge of the canyon. If you head towards Natural Bridge National Park you can drive up to Muley Point Overlook which makes the view even better.
