One of the many beautiful canyons in East Zion, and an access to several peaks and other challenging hikes (including a very challenging route to Crawford Arch). Start at the restrooms at the Canyon Overlook Trailhead. Before you descend, note the canyon straight ahead - not following Pine Creek up to the left (a nice short slot) or down to the right under the bridge (a very technical slot). Also look for the faint trail that winds its way around the dryfall. Once you are in the canyon, it is easy to follow until you reach a cavernous dryfall. If you want to continue, you can climb around it to the right, eventually reaching some short slot sections, beyond which the intrepid can cross into Crawford Wash on the south side of the ridge.

Never did find the trail, but did trail blaze the river bed. Beautiful area, had a great time anyway. Just disappointed the trail was NOT MARKED AT ALL!!!

The first bit is somewhat difficult to navigate. The canyon isn't the one you think it is... From the trail head; don't go toward the bridge, go the other way but take the fork on the right. Up and over the rock face, then you get a flat, easy to navigate, sandy wash to hike in. Was beautiful and didn't see another soul!

In late November, we were only able to make it about a half mile down this trail due to standing water, but the section we saw was beautiful. In dryer portions of the year, this would definitely be worth the hike. Sections are a little more challenging for younger kids - it’s not so much a trail as much a dry-ish wash, but doable if you take your time.

THIS IS NOT A TRAIL!! its basically a make your own adventure hike which happens to follow the creek bed of the gifford canyon. climbing and bush wacking are required. there was nobody else on this "trail" but there were footsteps in the sand which helped navigation and eased the feelings of uncertainty. fun but a bit sketchy.

either we r nuts or?? couldn't go under bridge down without real climbing gear. tried 2 ways upstream ran into too much water, gross water, and rocks and trees up another slot so I gave no idea where this goes and based on the other tracks, no one does. it starts right at the east end of tunnel by the bathroom. we only got 1/4 before problems. maybe it needs to be dry.

Wow, what a great hike! We saw NO ONE the entire hike. Very difficult to find the trail head - had to ask the ranger manning the tunnel booth. Several fun obstacles along the way. If you want to avoid the crowds and hike up an off the path canyon with some beautiful scenery, this is a good one.

Great hike with the kids... Water had washed through the narrow canyon sometime within 24 hours of our arrival. There was still a lot of water and tons of quicksand. Kids loved it. Ran into a heard of horned sheep. Really fun hike.

Started this hike from the bottom of the canyon. Absolutely stunning. My favorite trail in my favorite park. You can make it as difficult or easy as you want. Definitely recommend for a stop.

Off the beaten path, Gifford Canyon offers a serene stroll through a diverse ecosystem of water, rock and hanging gardens. Gifford Canyon is also the access point for all of the mid and main canyon range peaks including Bridge Mountain.

Hiked it again last week and it is still beautiful in the Winter as it is in the Spring. I can't wait to go again and look forward to next fall to take that opportunity to see the brilliant colors. Wonderful place to take kids exploring.
