pleasant walk in the old area of Fruita.

Pleasant walk through a surprisingly lush fruit growing community inside Capitol Reef National Park. It seemed a lot cooler in this area than in the park’s areas heated by red rock. Fascinating that the orchards have more than 3,000 trees including almond, apple, apricot, cherry, mulberry, peach, pear, plum, and walnut. The National Park Service maintains the orchards year round using historic cultural growing and irrigation practices.

A pioneer community that was taken over by the NPS. The Capitol Reef campground was built in a fruit orchard; the Fruita schoolhouse is on the highway. This is a piece of American history, very nice.
