Easy, flat dirt trail that follows along a small canal from the public parking lot across from Maple Dell campground to the Forebay pond. The trail is surrounded by scrub oak, maples, and a few pines, with some nice views across Payson Canyon. Heavy mountain bike use from riders accessing the Forebay mountain bike trails network. Also great for walking, hiking, running and horseback riding. It is necessary to get around one gate near the entry by the parking lot and you need to open/close another gate half-way to the pond. Parking area has a pit toilet maintained by the Forest Service with areas around the Forebay pond owned by Payson City.

Did this as part of a 4-mile loop with Gasline/Cowbones/Pine Forest. A very scenic trail that gets surprisingly high above the road. Wish there was a trail cutting over to Orange Gate at the Forest Service fence.

A few inches of snow was just groomed by the Trotters as I began this hike along the canal.

Hiked loop up Pine Forest to Maple Dell then down Forebay canal trail, then connected to JMC trail through Pierce Park. Great snowy hike.

Hiked along Forebay canal trail on Nov 16, 2019. A few red and orange leaves still clinging to trees and water flowing in the canal was pleasant. Passed a few mountain bikers and one other hiker. Trail was a little muddy in spots, but not bad.
