Awesome trail. Amazing views of fish lake all the way around. Some snow left in May so not a winter trail.

Just completed an overnight backpacking trip on this loop. Started at the south end of the lake and parked near the end of Forest Service Rd 060 (4x4 and high clearance are needed to reach the end of this road). Walked counter-clock wise and tackled the climb at the beginning of the hike, and camped about 9 miles in at the north end of the lake, just at the end of the aspens. Much of the west side of this trail goes along the lake shore and passes several lakeside resorts and marinas. The east side is secluded and through a pine forest. In early May '20 there were many patches of snow remaining, but nothing that required microspikes. Beautiful views along the entire trail. Recorded 18.5 miles and 2011 ft elevation gain on my alltrails app.

Excellent option for fall color. Very lightly traveled and a great view of Pando, a 106 acre aspen clone, with a common root system, believed to be one of the largest living things on the planet and among the oldest. We just walked the portion from Pando to the overlook. The trail is well maintained and a beautiful walk around a vivid blue lake. Switchbacks to the overlook ascend from 9000 to 10000 feet at a rapid rise. Two benches along the way help with the high altitude huffing and puffing. This hike is a hidden gem.

A tough hiking trail with some heavy switchbacks on the east side of the lake, but completely worth it.

This is not a good trail for mountain biking. Very rocky once you hit the eastern hillsides.
