Cruise up and down incredibly steep, giant slickrock fins The dominant feature of this trail is its steepness and great traction on the slickrock. Unbelievable fun and fantastic scenery. Best part is between Points 9 and 13. Small fee required to enter. Fee includes map with rules and regulations. Read and follow rules carefully. For information on this trail, contact the Sand Flats Recreation Area at (435) 259-2444. Steep slickrock climbs and descents. Some large ledges have bypasses, but not all. Short vehicles with high approach and departure angles do best, but many stock SUVs are seen on this trail. I'm sure their bumpers drag. The south loop is not recommended for ATVs.

Great trail. You would want a semi modded vehicle with clearance. My modded 97 cruiser did great. Back bumper will probably scrape on most cars.

This was my very first off road with a side by side and we couldn’t have picked a better trail! This was an easy “hard”. Not scary at all! $5 to get in but worth it!

Did this in a stock Pioneer 1000 with 27 inch tires and 12 inches of clearance. I’m new to what I’ll call “extreme 4-wheeling,” so this trail really rattled me. I’m sure the rock-crawler crowd would consider this fairly easy. I’m not used to climbing rocks in 4-wheel drive that make the vehicle feel like it’s going vertical. That said, this first time was pretty scary, but I do plan on doing it again—now that I know it can be done.

If it’s your first 4x4 trip in Moab. Start with Fins and Things. The south side is short but will help you get use to your vehicle and use to going up and down extremely steep slick rocks. Then move up the road further and do the north trail back down. It’s about 9 miles long and has plenty of challenges. But just being smart will get you through this trail easy. Highly recommend this trail!

If you are driving a shopping cart this will be a difficult trail. A total breeze for a rig that is even semi built.

Did this in October 2017 in a Rental Jeep. Great 4x4 driving. Well marked and lots of challenges and scenery. Driver and passenger acting as a spotter got exercise while often getting out to climb to the top of a hill to see what waited or to the bottom of a ravine to pick a track and helpful to have the spotter watching tire tracking on some of the tight areas while crawling over rocks and drop offs. There are times when all the driver sees is the sky for a few seconds while climbing to the top. Take a camera and video for great memories.

This is a very fun trail. A stock jeep can do it, but a lift and bigger tires make it that much easier. Lockers are not necessary. All the hard obstacles have bypasses.

First time on this trail and it was great! I drive a mostly stock 99 Jeep Cherokee with a slight lift and 30 in tires. Made it through with no problems. Especially liked the slickrock portion of the trail.

Just finished it with my rubicon. Lockers not needed. What a great time.

The most fun I've had yet in my new Raptor! Drug the hitch receiver on a few of the down slopes, but no damage at all to the truck. Lockers are almost a must here.

This trail is a blast. Hard to rate the difficulty, but with a trusty pal to spot me, I had no issues getting through the trail. Rear locker, 3"ish lift, and 33's on my Tacoma came in handy, although my friend with slighter smaller tires and no locker on his Taco got through without any major issues. I forgot to take my tow hitch off that day, so it did scrape on one obstacle, but I did get through.

It gets pretty steep on short sections, to the point where you can only see your hood and the sky looking through the windshield. If you look at the old silver Land Cruiser in the picture section, I believe that's the steepest uphill part. Drive-arounds are available for some of the more techy stuff.

As always, have a friend with you, air down the tires, pick a good line, and put a smile on your face and you'll be good.

Incredible views and challenging enough to keep the driver on his toes but still easy enough in parts for rookie drivers to take the wheel for a while. Amazing scenery on virtually the entire trail.

This trail is NOT for those who have trouble with looking down on both sides of the Jeep at a drop off while you drive atop a very narrow rock fin.

If you can handle that, you will love this trail as if feels like riding a roller coaster without all the safety devices to keep you from getting hurt.

Have Fun!

Love the roller coaster feeling on this trail. One section is only drivable in the day. Worth not skipping this part although you do drive through some campsites so use caution.

So much fun, I was only able to complete the first portion of the loop due to weather. If your new to wheeling, I recommend taking someone with you to spot you down off some of the steeper drops. We have a rubicon 4dr 4" lift on 35" tires and I didn't need the lockers or air down, but I did smack my tow hook on the ground so if you have one take it out if you don't want to mess it up. It's a lot of fun and a good solid challenge.

So much fun. It's a great trail for your first real off-road adventure with obstacles. Easy to follow. There are tire marks on the slick rock and well as painted stegosauri so you can get lost. I have done this trail in a Jeep, Polaris RZR, and on my dirtbike.

Very fun trail! If you have little to no off-road experience, this is a great trail to break yourself in, and even for off-road junkies like me who have done way harder trails, it is still a favorite! I've done it 3 or 4 times now and I really enjoy it, some of the sandstone drops and climbs exceed 30 degrees which makes it feel like you're going straight up or straight down but it is so fun! Being lifted and having lockers is a good idea and as always, going with a group in case of trouble is always recommended!
