On Dec. 23, 2017, we went up about 6 miles (entered from the West at Rte. 275)... enough to see a closer view of the Bears Ears Buttes.... it was passable in our Volvo xc70 station wagon.. no issues. A few patches of snow on that day, small ice patches. We went up on Dec. 23. As I am not from the area, I always suggest for you to ask around for the road condition before going up..... The road was quite dry, and any mud that was there had been hardened due to snow cover. If it's muddy, it'd be hard to impassable in areas, I'd imagine. Keep in mind that cell service is spotty to non-existent in this area.
