The East Rim Trail (just like the West Rim trail) has some of the most spectacular views that anyone could hope to see. There are beautiful canyons, mesas, trees and flowers. You will not want to spend a lot of time looking at your feet during this hike.

Backpacked this trail first week of May from East entrance to weeping rock. The first 5 miles of the trail to stave spring are fairly moderate. We camped about a mile up from the junction to cable mtn and had some nice views. Highly recommend the hike to cable mtn look-up...it's well worth it. Watch out for rattle snakes....we saw a big one just off the trail. The hike from stave spring to weeping rock is 5+ with great views and little people till you get further down the canyon.

We hiked this trail the beginning of March and there was still a lot of snow on about 3-4 miles of it and mud for about 2 miles. It made it difficult to walk as the snow was 2-3 feet deep with no way to go around it. Overall we really enjoyed the hike. There was not a single other person on the hike which was nice.

Didn't get to hike the entire trail, but several miles in and back was very secluded. Nice break from the crowds.

This is the fourth day of hiking and is by far the most difficult, It's a long hike from Camp 9 to the wilderness on the East Rim Trail.

Hiked only the portion of this trail to get up to the drop-in to Echo Canyon a technical slot canyon that requires a permit. Next time would like to see much more of the trail.
