The entrance to Mystery Canyon is tough to find, but will be obvious when you find it. It's near a bent tree that is on the rim of the canyon. Facing the canyon, the tree will be about 30 feet to your left. The trail itself is only about 2-3 feet wide at the top. You'll only see about 20-30 feet of it at its start. It soon turns into a scramble down a drainage where you will use tree roots along the way to keep upright. It will be obvious at this point that you are on the trail. You will be tempted to seek the entrance to Mystery Canyon too soon due to many social trails that lead to the rim of the canyon. If you take one of the social trails, try to spot the bent tree that protrudes from the canyon rim into the canyon. It's will be to your left as you face the canyon. Do not downclimb into the debris field and hope for the best. When in doubt, follow the water course. Watercourses typically have the largest and densest trees.
