It’s basically a long slog through sand uphill to the Butte. Mostly on an KanAm trail. The rest is basically bushwhacking not really a trail. But getting to the edge of the Mesa allows a nice close view of the rock patterns and is beautiful.

This trail is not easy...It is not easy to find I had to use other map to take my car to the trail head, but it is not too far off from the Google maps direction. The sand and the slight hill to the throne were hard to walk and to keep a normal pace. The hill to get to the top of the throne was MURDER, I don't know if I just went up the hard side but man, it was worse than walking up a dune However I do say it is worth the climb and to see the view. Also, the slots are on another trail not this one.

The trail we found lead to nowhere. The trail leads you to Diane’s rock. No canyon to be found. Would not recommend.

Nice short hike close to Kanab. I didn't do the track shown here, but the trails I took are shown on the map. From where I parked, there was a barbwire fence with a gate you could open and then I just walked straight up 106Q. It is sandy, and it is uphill, but really not that hard. I didn't climb around much once 106Q ended. About halfway up 106Q there is a .2 mile spur (I think it is 106R) that runs up to the base of the butte. You could for sure climb up quite a ways on the rocks there, not that I am recommending it. On the way up, you are looking at the colorful butte, and on the way down you are looking at a panoramic landscape that goes on forever. It may not be the most spectacular scenery in the area, but it's still excellent. If I go back, I will check out the online posts about how to find the slot canyon in the area, but apparently, you need to rappel to really explore the good parts.

The deep sand made this a brutal hike. Great views made it worth the effort.

This is not an easy hike considering you are trudging through sand on a a slight grade. And then there is steep uphill in sand. Once you reach the base of the throne and continue around to make your way up, the trail is not marked and is difficult to find. We did not make it to the slot canyon. And, after reading other description (besides all trails) I learned that there are at least two rappelling involved. There is no way this is kid friendly hike.

The trail is sandy and there is a gentle incline going up. The main issue is a barbed wire fence running right up to the mountain which blocks the right side of the trail. To the left is another trail with some really amazing views of all the different rock formations. It is worth the extra effort.

A lot harder than we anticipated!! I should have read the reviews. The service was good so using my All Trails app I could tell we were moving in the correct direction. THERE IS A LOT OF SAND and IT IS VERY STEEP SAND. It was exhausting but beautiful views, we could see the Court of the Patriarchs and all the nearby monuments beautifully.

The map on the bottom isn’t correct. We climbed around the throne, which was more moderate than easy and still couldn’t find the red slot in the pictures. The throne view was nice, but better directions would be appreciated.

First to Review

Tough to find the trail. We ended up climbing the first part of the throne in deep loose sand and it was hard!! It was beautiful but definitely not easy if you don’t find the trail. Lot of deep sand. Ended up more difficult than anticipated and maybe it was because we really couldn’t find the trail.
