So fun!!!! Definitely recommend poles for the way down since it’s super steep. I didn’t think to bring mine and wiped out a few times. The scramble is very heady but worth it to get those views !

Awesome trail but challenging after the lake. The ascent was quite steep to the ridge saddle and the trail quite narrow with patches of ice! Not as bad going up but a tad bit scary going down. The views are superb and magnificent both at the Albion Alta Bowl and at the other side where you can see the MT Timpanogos Massive Did not make it to to too if Devils Castle as it was not prudent to go at it alone:: there was Nobody there on the trail but me after the Ceret Lake ..

Start at base of Alta if you want to avoid $8 car fee via Albion basin. Only about a mile and half detour this way. Mostly shaded service road reach until cecret lake. Then single track all way up to ridge. Bit wet and some snow near top. Both peaks require some scrambling. Sugarloaf easier and less technical, while devil castle requires precision footing and sure steadiness. Saw some climbers come up the north side of devils castle. Gorgeous views of little cottonwood and backside of American fork canyon. Very underrated hike.

Parking was full, so we started quite a ways below the trailhead. Steep inclines right up a couple of ski runs cut our time quite a bit, and we scrambled about a half mile on loose steep terrain to get to Sugarloaf. The traverse to Devils castle is beautiful and not physically demanding, but it’s technical. You surprise yourself with what you can do after climbing all those jaggedy rocks! Great hike.

Awesome hike! Beautiful views from the top! The hike up to Cecret Lake is pretty easy. Once you pass the lake and start up it gets steeper and steeper all the way. It is fully exposed and there is a lot of loose dirt and rocks the entire way up. If anyone says it is not hard, they must run marathons for a living, don't be fooled, it is not easy and it is sketchy in some places. This hike is difficult and is not for everyone. At some points it is so steep you can almost reach out and touch the train in front of you.

This hike has the best views in town. It’s steep and gravelly at the top. Great workout and worth the effort!

Loved this hike! Devils Castle was amazing! There is a well defined steep trail from the lake to the saddle. The trail continues to be easy to follow all along the traverse and up to the summit. We stashed our packs and poles at the end of the traverse then scrambled up. At the castle take the trail that goes up the left side. Then we climbed Sugarloaf. Simple hike across large rock to the summit. No scrambling here. We chose to descend the opposite side of Sugarloaf (steep, but easy to manage with poles and good grip shoes) and ascend up Mount Baldy. Scrambled up the trail to the right of the ski lift but came down on the left. Short quick vertical gain. (Did some bum scooting to get back down this ridge). Then a simple walk up the trail to the summit. 3 peaks, 5.5 miles, moving time 3:32. Incredible way to spend a day! Amazing 360 views of everywhere!

This hike was freakin awesome! Some kinda precarious spots going over to Devil's Castle but man it was totally worth it! Even saw a mountain goat. Very cool

This is probably my new favorite hike in the Wasatch Front. It was tough, but the views from the top were incredible! I highly recommend good hiking shoes and poles as there is a lot of loose rock, dirt, and water from the melting snow. There was only one small spot where we had to walk through the snow. Finding the trail after Cecret Lake might have been impossible without this app. The map was very accurate and helpful. The last bit of the drive isn’t paved and we couldn’t get our sedan there without scraping the bottom. I highly recommend a larger car to get there. Also note that there is now an $8 cash fee at the booth before the unpaved road. If you arrive before the employees get there they will put a permanent sticker on your car that says “fee required, pay at booth before leaving”... so that’s going to be a lot of fun to try to remove.

We did the hike up from Cecret lake up to the saddle between Devils Castle and Sugarloaf mountain. We then went over to Devils Castle, then over to Sugarloaf. Highly recommend doing the loop from top of sugarloaf as the wildflowers are so pretty right now on the west side.

Challenging hike with all the snow, but so worth it to do both Sugarloaf and the Castle. Views are unbeatable, and the glissading is amazing! Bring trekking poles or light gloves, because you’ll use your hands a lot to stabilize yourself on the slippery snow! (Yak tracks or running crampons would be smart, but we did the whole thing without them)

Great hike, we started down at the resort due to parking issues mid summer. Just more to enjoy. After the summits we went down a small trail in between the two and it was a steep scramble. Easier just to loop back to sugarloaf and head down.

Great view from Devils Castle and Sugarloaf Peak. Headed west of Sugarloaf and added Hidden Peak for a triple

I was glad to find out the steep part does not have a lot of loose rocks. I was super glad I had hiking sticks coming down so I could do the 4 pt system to help me coming down. On the ridgeline when you look to the South that is Pittsburg lake that is up American Fork Canyon east of Tibbme Fork. Great views...not for those afraid of hikes. I did a 360 degree hike for Google maps/Earth. you can check it out on my blog https://shaunasadventures.blogspot.com/2018/07/360-hiking-adventure-devils-castle-alta_21.html?m=1 OR going to Google Earth typing in Devil's castle, then click on the little dude, and then click on a blue section of the trail you want to see.

Great hike that really doesn’t go too far past Cecret Lake. Wasn’t as sketchy as I thought it was going to be either. Last half is very steep, but it goes by fast! DO IT!

Great hike, not too long although with a very challenging second half, in which a lot of elevation is gained in a short distance (very steep). The summit is primarily very loose large boulders and sharp drop offs, but utterly fantastic views of the Wasatch range and of Alta/Snowbird ski resorts. Summit as at approx 11.2K ft so weather is very variable and can be very windy. Come prepared.
