Desert Voices Nature Trail and Split Mountain Campground is a 2.2 mile moderately trafficked loop trail located near Vernal, Utah that features beautiful wild flowers and is rated as moderate. The trail offers a number of activity options and is accessible year-round.
Dinosaur National Monument charges a fee to enter. Fees are $25 per vehicle or $20 per motorcycle. If you are entering on foot or bike the fee is $15 per person. You can also purchase a park specific annual pass for $45.

October 17, 2020Sound of Silence was a little confusing and surprisingly difficult but interesting and pretty. Desert Voices was a nice trail and not difficult. I wouldn’t be caught dead on either one if there were any rain around. Both spend a long time going through drainages and dry washes that would be dangerous if there was rain nearby.

September 13, 2020August 10, 2020Not bad but not great. Nice views but nothing to write home about. Trail is well marked and has a 1 way system for the loop. Has a lot of historical and nature signs all along the trail to read. Not crowded as I was the only person on the trail, possibly because it was near 100 degrees. The Colorado side of this National Monument park is better.

May 16, 2020Was easier than an "easy" rated trail I did 2 days ago. Not sure I'd rate this moderate and right now, I'm in terrible shape for hiking. So, most will find this one pretty easy.
October 16, 2019October was the perfect time to visit Dinosaur National Monument. This hike wouldn't have been half so pleasant in the heat. It was 70 degrees this week, and this hike was incredible for the whole family. The variety of landforms and vegetation made for a thoroughly enjoyable morning hike.

June 8, 2019Pretty nice trail through the desert. There are some areas where the trail crosses a wash or a section of descent has been eroded, leading to loose sand/rocks. I would recommend close toed shoes and trekking poles. Many interpretive signs along the trail explaining various aspects of desert life. Hiked in early summer evening and weather was gorgeous. Didn't see anyone else in the hour I was out. Very quiet.
May 25, 2019Hiked here the Saturday of Memorial Day. I started at 9am and literally saw one other person. The signage was the best I have seen and great stops to read along the way. The flowers this weekend were stunning! Combine it with the sound of silence trail. The whole combo with frequent stops only took me three hours and was pretty easy.

May 27, 2018This trail connects up with the slightly more scenic Sounds of Silence trail, which has its own reviews on the AllTrails website. If you do both loops, it will be a not terribly strenuous 5.5 miles. I did the loop using the connector from the Sounds of Silence trail and did not go all the way down to the Split Mountain Campground. Very well maintained and marked trail with many informational signs posted along the way, most of which suggest that conservation and protecting the wilderness is a good thing. I'm down with that.
May 1, 2018Great hike! Trail was a little difficult to follow in the beginning as it winds in and out of a creek/waterway. Trail offered beautiful views. Started out around 6pm and caught the setting sun in a lot of photos.
April 4, 2018did this in the evening in april. we shared the trail with a handful of deer and wild life. my girls (9, 5, 4) loved it. beautiful.
July 13, 2017A hot tiring tails, but not too long that kids can make it, with a little encouragement. Took a 4,5,7 year old, and while we had lots of water breaks (bring lots!), they were able to keep going. Lots of hills.

July 17, 2016Rosa is a really good hike to start getting the kids in the mood for other hikes in the area. The river scenes are outstanding and not too difficult.
June 27, 2016I agree with Chuck (Gaines). My son and I mixed this trail with a leg from Sound of Silence and it was a real gem. Lots of wildlife and even a few no-shoulders lurking around. (Watch out!) If you're looking for a taste of the desert without wanting too much risk, this is the trail for you.
