A hidden canyon with spur trails and overlooks. Strenuous climb of 320 feet from west to east up 1/4 mile switchback, then moderate. More gradual climb of 440 from east to west.

This is a great trail. The hike through the canyon is very nice. We went to both the South and North overlooks.

We had limited time in Capitol Reef, so we decided on this one due to its proximity to Hickman Bridge (if you do it backwards from All Trail’s starting point, the two trailheads are a short walk away from each other). After a brief climb, there was a very misleading sign that accidentally sent us off route. It shows directions for a campground, so we went in the opposite direction. It turns out, that is the trail we wanted. There is no signage for Cohab Canyon - just a campground, and another one for the Frying Pan Trail. Just a heads up if you are coming from the direction we were. We encountered more and more traffic as we got closer to the traditional starting point, but over all it was only moderately busy.

Beautiful. Best part was the narrow beginning when starting on the side near the Gifford House. Saw a mountain goat at the South overlook. Sad to see all the vegetative damage from people exploring side canyons without official trails.

This is a fun trail to sort of wander around in- once you’re in the canyon there are a lot of places and side slot canyons to explore. If you start from the steeper side near the campground, be sure to grab a cinnamon roll from the Gifford House when you’re done!

We hiked this trail to both overlooks of Fruita. Great views of the valley and some of the orchards with a trail through beautiful rock formations.

The trail overall is my favorite in Capitol Reef but towards the middle of the trail it was in marked so I ended up walking around it but the colors were amazing

There is a steep series of switchbacks at the beginning. Once you get to the canyon is a very easy hike the trail is marked by cairns but it is very hard to get lost. The canyon is beautiful and there are some slot canyons off that connect to the canyon.

Completed 6/2/19. I’m a novice hiker from FL. Steep climb up at beginning of trail. The view looking down and over the park is great. Once you get to the canyon you descend a little bit and is basically flat for most of the way. Fun to be in a canyon. Went mid afternoon and found very little shade, so bring water. Great hike. No scrambling.

Cohab Canyon is a gorgeous trail, in the beginning it’s going up hill but after climbing up that challenging part then you’re in between the canyons. It leads you to the north and south overlook, which i definitely recommend going, or you can go to the end of the trail which leads to highway 24. Beautiful overviews.

Great short hike. If starting at the campground, the first part of the hike is up switch backs until you reach the canyon. The canyon is beautiful.

So steep to start! Beautiful textures in the canyon, and the overlooks are great.

This is an amazing trail! I would recommend starting from the Scenic Drive side. There’s parking in the dirt lot across from the barn. The first part is steep but it gets more level. The canyon is amazing! It’s red and white striped sandstone covered in waterpockets. There are lots of spurs into the cracks between the rocks. The south and north fruita overlooks are well worth the trek up the switchbacks. You can also connect to the Hickman Bridge trail across the 24. I did that trail yesterday so I didn’t connect to it today.

Nice variable terrain. The walk though the canyon was beautiful. Don’t skip the viewpoints, a little climb to get up there but great views. We started at the trailhead then crossed over 24 and linked the Hickman bridge trail. On the way back walked along the river/hwy 24. Made for a nice loop. Started a little before 8, very few people on the trail.

Fantastic hike through Cohab Canyon. Great views over Fruita valley from the beginning, and of course from the lookout points. Fun spots to scramble on or sit in the shade. Not too crowded. Favorite hike in Capitol Reef NP.

This trail was awesome. Tough for my parents who don't hike much, but I had no problems. We started at the parking lots by the campgrounds and made the initial tough ascent, but once you turn the corner and enter the canyon it becomes magical. I would recommend this for anyone. Just don't let the first hill scare you! We continued on to Hickman Bridge and altogether it took about 4 hours with frequent stops for my parents to rest.

AMAZING!!!! This trail is so fun! The views and feeling of it were unbeatable. We did the slot canyons right off of the trail, and made lasting memories. I would recommend this trail to anyone and everyone.

First bit is a little steep, but nothing unmanageable and gorgeous views from the very beginning. There don't seem to be markers for this trail past the entrance but the path is obvious. We took the turnoff toward the campground but then split off to go back up toward the south and north overlooks which are well worth the adventure. Very windy, make sure you keep an eye out for cairns - you can go fairly far out on the overlook as long as you know where to step. Arrived around noon and it took an hour and half, didn't run in to too many people even thought it was a gorgeous day.

We loved this trail, for the geological differences from the other trails we did at Capital Reef. The first quarter mile is steep, but offers immediate panorama of the historic Fruita district. Then you get into boulders, then a wash before coming to the North and South Overlooks into the valley. Trail is well-marked by cairns along slickrock sections.

Sweet hike, really hard for the first quarter mile but other than that it's pretty easy. The Canyon at the top is beautiful. Nice view over the Fruita area and campground.
