Getting There

Note: The Albion base area may close seasonally. Road blocks off about 15 minutes down from the trailhead. Road to the trailhead is currently CLOSED until July 20. Please check with the park for current shuttle schedule as it may have changed for the current summer season of 2020. Due to extremely limited parking access at Cecret Lake/Catherine's Pass Trailheads and to reduce congestion on the Summer Road and in the upper Albion Basin parking areas, it is highly recommended that hikers park in the Wildcat base area parking lot and hike the Lower Albion Meadows Trail to the Upper Albion Meadows Trail or ride the $5 shuttle provided by Alta Ski Area on weekends and holidays. A wonderful family hike to beautiful alpine lake in the Little Cottonwood Canyons Albion Basin. This is a very short hike to a beautiful alpine lake in the Albion Basin region near Alta and Snowbird Ski Resorts. This area is very popular on summer weekends so parking may be difficult. Take the time to relax at the lake and take lots of photos of your family with the mountains as a backdrop.

Directions: From I-15 in Sandy, UT take exit #298 and head east on Highway 209 for 7 miles to where it joins 210 (Little Cottonwood Canyon Road). At this junction (with a big flashing message sign) drive up Little Cottonwood Canyon for 11 miles to a parking lot on the left side of the road just before the Albion Basin Campground. It is best to arrive early as sometimes the road is closed due to large weekend crowds.

Started from below the trailhead because parking was full. The first 3 quarters up took about an hour, and the last quarter took another hour maybe hour and a half. Very pretty at the top though.

trail was great. all sorts of beauty. glad we did the longer trail as the closer we got to the higher parking lot the more people we had to deal with.

we love this trail. great for kids ages 5 and up. the last part is a bit steep, but gun to venture over rocks and switchbacks. tiny creeks to cross. a beautiful lake at the top. save some energy to boulder around the whole lake and spot salamanders.

Well done, it’s easy and gets steeper as you get to the lake. We took a range of 70 years to 2 and had a great time. Recommend going early or late. The steepest part is in direct sunlight. Sunscreen for sure. And if you have littles they’ll scramble up the rocks so long pants. I always pack a change of clothes but swimming isn’t allowed.

Good little hike and easy to find. A little bit rocky for theasy half of the path but not bad. The salamanders were still up there and even though they're endangered, they're fun to watch!

Friends worked at Alta so I came out last summer to check it out off season. Quick hike up to the lake to hang out in the hammock for a while. Nice seeing the area without being covered in snow.

Fun hike, really pretty trails and the lake is beautiful! We took our four-year-old on it and had to hold her hands on a couple of rocky parts, but she did great. There is a short switch back at the end which I carried her up in a pack. My other kids ranging from 11 to 16 years old did fine.

Super easy. Even kids could do it. Lots of really pretty views. Usually crowded trail once you get to Cecret lake trailhead but I had it all to myself until then! Even saw a couple moose.
