As of April 15, 2019 there is a road closure however the trail is not affected. Check the NPS website prior to visiting to ensure you can get into the areas you want to hike. Road closure isn’t well advertised until you get to the park. 1 mile easy-to-moderate out and back offering some of the most breathtaking views of Zion Canyon. The trail itself short and not steep; the elevation gain is 100 ft between the parking lot and the viewpoint. The trailhead is a collection of stone steps that ascend the stone ridge directly above north side of road, across the street from the parking lot. The trail passes through shaded alcoves with ferns and trees, across a planked boardwalk and through a moist grotto, and over bare slick rock, wandering its way to edge of impressive cliff overlook. The expanse of Zion Canyon is open before Overlook, with its monumental formations visible on either side of canyon. You can see the road as it switchbacks below the west end of the Mount Carmel Tunnel. The West Temple, Towers of the Virgins, Streaked Wall, and Beehives all make up part of this tremendous view. The East Temple rises directly above the Overlook, towering more than 2,200 ft above the canyon floor. The Great Arch lies recessed into the cliff-face below the Overlook, carving its way through eons into solid sandstone. This trail be reached by following Highway 9, to east entrance of Mount Carmel Tunnel, directly below the East Temple Saddle. Parking area on south side, and trailhead is across street, on north side. Note you cannot make a left turn into the parking lot if traveling from the east, but there is parking along the road about a quarter mile before you reach the parking lot. This hike is one of Zion's highlights, don't miss it!

This has got to be the most underrated hike in Zion. The views are unbelievable and you don't have to work nearly as hard to get to them as you would if you were hiking Angels Landing or Observation point. A must do in Zion.

This is a hard hike! Not hiking hard, but hard to start! The parking is tough as it's right after the tunnel so make sure you exhibit some patience. The trail is very nice and each time my girlfriend and I have hiked it, we have seen Bighorn Sheep!

This is a crowded trail. The views of Zion are spectacular. It is an easy trail and takes an hour at a slow pace.

Very nice short hike! The railings were useful and kept the hikers from the possibility of falling. The overlook was amazing! Definitely hike this trail, worth the time and hike!

A quick and fun rock trail to awesome views. There were some steep drop offs and a narrow trail though - I wouldn’t go when it’s busy.

Nice unpaved “demo” trail for all level hikers - short enough, little sleepy, but very rewarding at the end where you can observe Pine Creek - beautiful and majestic view. Made it with 4 y.o kid.

Really cool trail with a really cool view. It’s short but it’s steep at points and a little rough at others. Super fun.

Coming in from the east entrance, this was the perfect way to be welcomed to the park. One of the best views I saw and a very easy hike. It’s a must-do. Road is open now.

?: Can you get to the Canyon Overlook Trailhead from the Springdale side of the Park w/ road closures? Is the tunnel completely blocked or just down to (1) lane?

Fun hike, not very difficult. It was crowded but still able to enjoy some great views. Mountain goats were seen along the trail and were fun to watch.

This is a great hike. I did that with my 6 and 9 year old. I would rate it moderate. Kids had to be hold due to very narrow passage. Great views at the top.

My favorite hike in the Zion area so far. Didn’t get to do Angel’s Landing but this was such an epic view. Short and sweet— and such a fun terrain to hike up in. Not a paved path. Went before sunset, crowds weren’t too bad.

A great bang for your buck in Zion. Amazing views and rock bouldering all in 1 mile. Must do if you’re in the area.

This was my favorite easy hike in Zion. We have two little kids 8 months and 3 years old so we stick to the short and easy trail this time. The view is amazing.

Great little trail with massive views throughout. I was expecting a more kid friendly trail and this is not that. A ton of exposed trail, even in wet areas forced my son and heights-averse wife back pretty quickly. It is also a bit tricky to get to. No shuttle and not 20% of the required parking but if you walk the road/patient for a spot it is really a great hike. Just not for people with a fear of heights.

Finished my day off today on this trail. Got close up with a big horn sheep that could care less I was there. Amazing view at the end, highly recommended!!!

My favorite hike in Zion. In my opinion this short, easy trail has the most to see! All along the trail there are different views, a little cavern and we saw several bighorn sheep. Highly recommend this trail- just be careful with a few steep drop offs right along the trail. There is an arch that resembles a rainbow right in front of the cavern that is absolutely beautiful!

One of the best short hikes I’ve even been on. Highly recommend it during the sunset and sunrise as the views are amazing.

Totally worth it. I would rate it moderate. Maybe because it’s short it’s rated easy??
