Awesome trail if you go down far enough (I went about 3.5 miles in) , highly recommended... with two "buts". 1) You have to be a trailblazer, willing to forge your own trail when the real one disappears. And 2) Go in a group or make lots of noise! Found dozens of bear tracks. I'd hate for you to get eaten because I didn't say that :D Happy trails.

Not too many people know about this trail. Never go in the spring because the flies will eat you up! The trail does disappear once it reaches the water and it's hard to find. You can find bits of it here and there but I suggest you take a machete to make your way through the dense foliage. The park does not up keep this trail. Once you reach the walls of sandstone it gets a little easier, just follow the water course. Then the water disappears for a while and re-appears. We found an over hang about 4 miles up with pictographs in it. The pines become thicker the farther you climb in elevation. I suggest to just follow the creek since the trail is so hard to find. The trail ends at head of box canyon.
