Great Fall Hike! Lots of variations for trails and some nice peaks towards the top with views of Alta, Brighton and DV
Fantastic full-day hike. We went up from Lake Mary to Sunset Peak, then came back down and looped around all the nearby lakes. So many totally distinct microbiomes between the lakes, the peak, the dense evergreen forests, and the white aspen forests. This hiking area can be extended to be as short or long of a hike as you want, with a million smaller trails everywhere. Perfect area to spend a weekend day, when all the other trails in these canyons are all crazy busy. Ample parking due to the ski areas, and many places for people to spread out on — we were mostly on our own all day despite it being a crisp Saturday in mid-October.
Using the AllTrails map is definitely worth it on this loop. There are many little offshoot trails that you can get sidetracked on, so having a clear path was nice. It also was not super well marked. Especially once you started the loop after the Lake Mary offshoot. However it’s a gorgeous hike. Great views and a great workout in nature! Didn’t catch any moose, but saw several mule deer. Definitely recommended!
My favorite hike up at Brighton. You get to see 6 different lakes. It is truly an amazing hike. The trail between the lakes is also very scenic, and going from Twin Lakes to Lake Mary wasn't very crowded.
We went to Silver, Twin and then Mary. Downhill the way from Mary. Pretty lakes. Not too crowded.
Great trail...with a little scrambling in spots...started out walking from the big parking lot at Brighton. Did a side trip to Dog Lake and then Mary, Martha, Catherine, Twin Lakes and Silver Lake. A little over 8 miles. Made it up to about 10,400 before we turned around. Saw 4 moose at Lake Martha!
Had a great time hiking this in the cool rain. Did Mary, Martha, Catherine, up to Sunset Peak, down to Dog, over to Twin, and down to Silver Lake. With a little trail running, did it in just over 3 hours. Not too crowded because of the rain. Temps in the 50’s. Throwing in Sunset Peak, (worth it), it’s about 9 miles.
Beautiful wildflowers! Lush and green. Highly recommend to get Great Lake views. Temperature was in the 70s
Definitely wouldn't rate this as hard. it didn't have much incline. it was steady and beautiful. the wild flowers were gorgeous (but so many kids picking them which was sad). we also saw a moose. it was great.
Best hike I have been on this year. Aside from the mosquitoes, it was perfect.
Technically this isn’t the Brighton Lakes Loop, but I did the Cirque - it was amazing. Highly recommend!
Loved the hike. The trail up from silver lake is very nice. Would be 5 stars, but the trail down from Mary is only ok. It was still snowy and muddy, but passable. I think we need to make a new trail from the bottom of the twin lakes dam to the low point of the next section. Go cross country instead of hiking the stupid dirt hill. You skip snow and a super hill.
This was a beautiful hike and a beautiful day! Definitely not for the beginner. Download the trail map as it’s very helpful when the trail is covered with snow like it was in many parts. Poles are helpful if you have trouble with balance or have achy knees. The last part of the loop is walking along the street back to the Brighton parking lot.
