Trailhead: Mueller Park Elevation: Mueller Park 5230; Elephant Rock 6255 Map: Fort Douglas 7.5 quadrangle Introduction: The Mueller Park trail is the quintessential easy-access trail. From neighborhood to trailhead in 500 feet, you can hit this trail before work, after work, or on a long lunch break. Your reward comes in the form of a riparian area, tranquil backcountry, a birds-eye view of Bountiful below, and a mix of hardwoods and conifers. Mueller Park trail is extremely popular in the summer. This trail winds across and up the mountain keeping the elevation gain manageable. The thick scrub oak provides anchors for the snow pack so avalanche danger ranks low. But perhaps the biggest plus of this trail is how quickly you exit the city and the resulting views. How to get there: From I-15 take the 315 exit. Head east on W 2600 South to Orchard Drive and continue straight. At 1800 South turn east and follow the road to its conclusionMueller Park. The trail begins before the fee booth. Cross the foot bridge to the south. Trail description: The trailhead is well marked and easy to find. Start by crossing the bridge. The trail passes next to Mill Creek for the first few hundred feet where it then begins to wind up the hill. The trail makes four wide sweeping .5 mile switchbacks as it climbs this north face of the mountain. After climbing the first .5 mile you'll be rewarded with views to the west of Bountiful and the Great Salt Lake; and again at .70 mile. At .75 mile the trail leaves the switchbacks and rounds the corner of the mountain heading south and east as it hugs the curves of the mountain. As it makes this turn you can look east and see the large grey blob of rock youre headed for: Elephant Rock. The trail continues to the east maintaining elevation between 5500 and 6000, winding in and out along the silhouette of the mountain as it leads toward Elephant Rock. The trail crosses a couple springs and bridges along the way. At 3.5 miles the trail forks. By going straight and toward the front of the mountain you will hit Elephant Rock, by heading up the mountain to the right/south you will head toward Rudys Flat and North Canyon. To return, follow your same path back. Options: Mueller Park Picnic Area, just east of the Mueller Park trailhead, closes during winter months. Mill Creek runs through the picnic area.

I would mirror Julie Kirby’s comments. Great trail for running, beautiful, but way too many people. Also way too much dog crap on the trail.

This trail is great for trail running. My only complaint is its popularity. Too many people. It thinned out after the first 2 miles. I clocked this at 7 miles to elephant rock and back.

Perfect time of year. Perfect trail to start trail running or get back into trail running.

Great for trail running! Mostly shaded by trees and a clear, defined trail. Keep running past big rock towards Rudy’s flat it’s beautiful.

Thus trail is beautiful and well maintained.
ylThe path is worn and easy yo navigate. I went around 7:30 and it was already busy.
There are a lot of hikers, runners and bikes on the trail. I didn't see any horses.
The elevation gain definitely manageable. There are several ups and downs to give you breaks.
Lots of shade with only a few exposed areas.
Some of the plants are already to starting to change color.

I'll be running this one again.

I love this trail, it's so easy to get to and doesnt take you all day to do it. Trail is fairly easy with a slight incline but doable. The only downside is this trail gets busy, runners, bikers, sometimes even horseback riders, so keep ya eyes out.

I love this trail. Trail has slight incline most of the way but I think it's a good trail for everyone. Only downside is its a very busy busy trail, it's best to come early to avoid collisions.

Muy bueno para empezar senderismo

Great trail- narrow in spots- watch for mountain bikers who are coming down- most are careful but i have had some close calls in narrow bends with mnt bikers- yesterday was almost hit by one who came around a blind curve speeding down the trail- they should consider a bell

Definitely a lot of uphill especially the first 2 miles but overall a good trail run!!

This was a beautiful trail. We had 5 kids ages 5-10 and our dog with us, they all handled it beautifully. Everyone wanted lots of water on the way up. The trail is nicely shaded the majority of the time. Cons: the amount of dog poop on this trail is ridiculous, why the heck can’t people just pick up their dog’s poop?! Pretty soon dogs won’t be allowed in such beautiful places. Not cool.

A great trail to run. Not too steep (up or down), not too long or short, not too rocky. Lots of shade and beautiful greenery in the spring.

Very pretty, scenic views. Trail is moderate incline to the rock. Somewhat crowded later in the day. Thoroughly enjoying the trail when 2 kids on motorcycles came up the trail. Apparently motorcycles are allowed on this trail? It terrified my dog and the engine noise echoed through the canyon. Other than that disturbing episode, the trail is good training.

Its a good family trail with fair amounts of shade. I don't personally love sharing the trail with mountain bikers (with 3 kids 5 and under, its a total hassle to pull them all aside every 5 minutes) but we chose a much less crowded time than usual, which was very pleasant!
We typically hike Big or Little cottonwood about 75% of the time, so the dog waste everywhere was appalling to see... CLEAN UP AFTER YOUR DOGS PEOPLE!
The teepees were all dismantled which was a total bummer! My kids were really looking forward to them!
There were tons of wildflowers and tree blossoms and it made for gorgeous scenery!
