Pretty views of Little Cottonwood and the Valley. Trail is harder than we expected. It is snowy for much of the trail with ice in spots. The tricky part was it is rocky and there are some narrow sections that are a little tricky. While we did it, I wouldn’t recommend doing this with young children right now.
I discovered this trail... our now go to 1 hour escape, fresh air hike with the kids, 7 and 4. Nice to have the parking lot right there, small elevation to make it fun, nice views, not too crowded. I did it clockwise which worked best for the children, the climb is more gradual that way.
Decent trail with good construction over the rocky sections. Good tree cover much of the way. Nice views of the steep granite walls on both sides of the canyon. Several access points for folks that enjoy technical rock climbing.
This is an easy trail when you stay on the trail that is close to road. Road is noisy until you climb farther up the trail. If you stay on the lower trail it eventually comes to a dead end, just turn around and head up the mountain. Even though this trail is a short one it's worth hiking. You will come to a rock scramble, but nothing that is rated hard. We were the only ones on the trail until the very end when we ran into a family that was coming up. We went counterclockwise as suggested to see the views of the city going down. If you go clockwise you will have the rock scramble at the start of the trail vs. at the end of your hike if you go counterclockwise. I think it's easier to climb the rocks going up vs. going down.
It’s kinda overgrown in a lot of spots, and I was frequently concerned i’d run into a surprise mountain biker with how narrow the trail was. But overall it’s a nice short hike with access to some rock climbing if that is your thing.
We hiked this on a Friday morning. (7/24) It's a tricky trail in my opinion. There are lots of offshoots and it's hard to keep track of where you are at. We ended up having to backtrack a couple of times. The trail is narrow and overgrown but it is pretty shaded. We only ever passed 2 people the whole time also, it's not busy at all. There are places where you can see the rock climbers and it was fun to watch them.
DO NOT MOUNTAIN BIKE THIS TRAIL UNLESS YOU’RE AN EXPERT. I saw this trail on here, and reviews said it was a good trail to hike, as well as someone saying mountain biking is pretty easy. I don’t doubt hiking it would be fun, but mountain biking was pretty impossible. The rocks are beautiful, but they’re situated to be maneuvered like walking up stairs, not riding a bike up/down them. I traveled this loop clockwise, but there was a suggestion to do it counter clockwise for the views, so there’s a possibility Mtn biking it would be more doable that direction. I had to walk my bike for close to half of the trail, and made it not worth bringing my bike. There were some gorgeous views, but they hardly made up for carrying my bike up rock stairs for over half a mile.
Tough inclines for the fam! But fantastic views and fun rocks to climb.
absolutely great on an early summer weekend morning. our four-year-old loved scrambling and wandering.
