city walk

Paved walk/bike path through park constructed around city reservoir. Multiple parking lots around the pathway. Relatively level terrain. White Rock Lake is a water reservoir constructed circa 1900 to supply water to the growing Dallas area. The surrounding land has been turned into a picturesque city park and is, in turn, surrounded by neighborhoods. A paved multi-use pathway circumnavigates the lake with several (apparently older and unmaintained) walking pathways branching off at various points. Interconnects with other pathways.

Hello old friend! Lived in Dallas 25+ years ago and ran this every weekend. Had a chance to run it again on a cool December morning. Still pretty, tons of wading birds and friendly people. Noticed runners these days stick to the road and not the old trail. Old trail for this guy!

I am at this lake just about every day. It’s a great place to do a short leisurely walk or a more intense workout running or riding bikes (you can even rent paddle boards and kayaks here). There are a lot of water fountains around the lake but I think they are turned off right now for the winter, so bring a water with you.

Lovely trail for a Sunday afternoon hike. It is well paved. Crowded at some points, but manageable.

Great views the entire way, the bike trail was perfectly maintained in some spots and completely broken up in others. But there's always a road next to the bike path that you can share with cars while still appreciating the view

Wow, our first time visiting, we were impressed. A great place to bike ride, very scenic, especially with the lake! We noticed heavy traffic at 7:30 am with runners, bikers, walkers. We enjoyed several look out points as well. Very clean, clear paths and enjoyable for any physical level. A wonderful place to visit or make a routine place to come. We witnessed a 5k race going on also. Those that like to fish, grab your pole and come, we saw several people fishing off piers. Chris and Kendra

The White Rock Trail is possibly the best place to run/bike in the DFW area.

This trail is great for walking/running and has nice views of downtown on the east side. It’s deceivingly long since you can’t see the full lake at any point but I’ve always made the full length just fine. Be sure to bring sunscreen and a water bottle. There are fountains at a few locations along the route.

I don’t consider paved sidewalks as a trail.

This trail was beautiful but there were so many bikers. The paved trail really worked better for bikers than hikers. Really cool to hike straight up through Dallas. Next time I will be riding my bike through this trail.

Very little “off the concrete trails”. The pathway that wraps around the lake is all concrete. The wooded area with dirt trails is behind the spillway. It is a decent area, although it’s pretty small. During the warmer weather, definitely use mosquito repellent, as they are horrible in there. Also, there is a ton of poison ivy, so use caution when going through the overgrown, and narrow parts of the trail. I’ve noticed a lot of spray paint graffiti, so there might be teens hanging out. No big deal, but I always like to be aware of who might be around. Especially, in more hidden areas. White Rock is definitely one of my favorite outdoor places of Dallas. I grew up in Lake Highlands, so it’s been a place I’ve grown up going to. The city has definitely improved the area. Also, the Dallas police are active there. Either in their patrol cars or bikes. Unfortunately, like in almost every area I hike in dfw, the creeks and woods are full of trash. It’s incredibly frustrating, because I very much believe in Leave No Trace. And, people who litter and don’t clean up after their dogs, are big A Holes in my opinion.

This is a nice trail in the middle Dallas. Every piece touches the lake where you can see the birds and activities.
