I'd advise you only go super early on the weekends because after work and in the main parts of the day the traffic will really interrupt your run along this route -- you have to stop a few times as the trail merges with the main road sidewalk and intersections....
I find parking near the church is a good place to start, and you can run further up the bayou past 610 if you want a longer 6+ mile loop.

Urban paved trail next to White Oak Bayou, which unfortunately is really a large concreted drainage ditch, at least on the eastern end. Views of the city are partially blocked by elevated 1-10. But, it is a hike with lots of trees and people watching which is as close to downtown Houston as you can get.
