Nice little walk through the scrub and trees of coastal Texas. it has a couple bird blinds as well for birding.

Bring plenty of bug repellent. Very short trail. Not very interesting.

The trail is now nicely cleared from Hurricane Harvey damage. Easy walk with lots of birds, insects, plants and trees.

Hurricane Harvey did extensive damage to the trees. Not a pretty hike. Trail has been cleared of debris but piles of dead trees everywhere. Sad.

Lantana Loop rather than a hiking trail is a campground loop with a little trail off of it. It costs $5 per person to get in to use the minuscule trail. The campground is called Goose Island State Park and is a fishermans dream, I believe. We were told of a free trail nearby called Big Tree. This turned out to be a very impressive oak tree with a paved path circling around it. Off to the side was a little dirt path which led to an old cement road going down to the water in about 2/10ths of a mile. There were lots of mosquitoes (March 2017)). Pretty view, nice sea breeze but hardly could call this a trail.

It was a really nice place. The hiking trails were really short though and not really worth the 5 dollar per person entry fee. However, If you going there to fish you might have a blast.

First to Review

My friend and I spent an enjoyable weekend at this park birding, camping and hiking. Definitely bring the mosquito repellent for the more wooded areas, but the wind is strong enough at the beach to keep them away. The dog loved playing in the surf, and there was lots of wildlife to see. The hiking is minimal, and it's predictably hot in the summer, so this was not a primary activity for us.
