This trail was pretty and we saw lots of wildlife - multiple deer, huge blue lizard, snake, pretty Cardinal and loads of bugs. We walked the entire trail, but could not find the cowboy outpost. A word of caution: if you walk the trail in the summer (or any trail at PDC), bring lots of water and take breaks. It was VERY hot (our car registered 108 when we got off the trail). They did tell us about the heat advisory when we arrived, however. We crossed the street at one point to fill up our water bottles at the restroom area. A ranger came by to check on us while there, as well (thank you!). I only gave 4 stars, because of the inability to identify the outpost and that it ran parallel to the street. *My recording did not work properly, because I lost signal.

Nice easy trail with lots of shade and views of the water. Bugs can be bad in the summers. If you are trying to find the dugout, there is a sign that points you towards it off of Paseo. Good for kids and for those just wanting a nice walk. Also a great way to make GSL and Lighthouse into a loop.

Starting point of north point of the trail is incorrect and as a result we missed the cowboys dugout on the way out (south bound). The trails are marked with a metal plank every .1 mile. Make sure the ones you follow are marked PDR (Paseo Del Rio). If not then you’re on the wrong trail... (K stands for Kiowa trail). If you want to be on the safe side, just start from the south part of the trail where you’ll find a sign marking the beginning of it. Otherwise, it’s a nice easy hike, with lots of shade. It goes along the river and the road and about midway there’s access to the picnic area where you can actually go to the restrooms if needed.

A good “first” trail for park newcomers. Pretty flat and wide trail that’s easy to get to and easy to hike.

Great classic trail for PDC. Well managed but busy this weekend. Took a diversion into Little Fox Canyon too. Nice easy 2 mile jaunt. Many bikers but they were courteous.

Nice easy walk. If you don’t have a lot of time to hike Palo Duro this is a quick easy hike and the cowboy dugout is interesting.

Very easy, good for kids. Crosses a small river which was icy cold and extremely shallow. Felt good on the feet and ankles after our 6 mile hike!

Very easy/simple trail which runs parallel to the road. There is a small off-shoot trail listed as "shar ma ko rainmaker" (or something close) which leads down to a nice bank in the creek. Our dogs especially liked being able to play in the water. Check yourself for ticks after though!

Simple walk along the valley running through the park. Did it to see the Dugout. The dugout was interesting. It can also be scene by a short jaunt of the road. However, do the trail.

This is a flat trail that can be accessed for either end. Near the north end is the Cowboy dugout, that shows the life of a Palo Duro Cowboy. The trails on the day we were in the park were very muddy, so we started at the north end and only went to the dugout.
