The route shown on this page has the hiker starting on Woodrow Bean Transmountain Drive and using the Ron Coleman Trail to reach South Franklin Mountain. The hiker will also pass the popular Mammoth Rock and then return to their car the way they came. Hikers may also choose to do this route as a point-to-point, ending the hike at the southern terminus of the Ron Coleman Trail, McKelligon Canyon Drive. This hike can also be started from McKelligon Canyon Drive, using the Ron Coleman Trail to go north. That route could also be done as an out-and-back or a point-to-point.

Tough trail, will definitely push you. It would’ve been higher rated if it wasn’t so off trail towards the top and getting back down.
