HikingFeeGreat!No shade

Great trail! Hiked from 11-2pm. Took a lil longer because my 4 year old joined us. She was able to maneuver through the rocky trial. There is very little shade during the beginning and end of the loop. Water was beautiful to see

HikingFeeGreat!

$10 fee. Started at 8am and we were the only ones out there. Hot and almost no shade until we got to the springs. Really nice and semi challenging trail. Worth the hike

The spring is beautiful but there’s a lot of desert before you get there. Hot and exposed today. Easy. Some rocks

Great hike and relatively easy. No one out there today so it made for a great social distanced activity. Some parts have direct sun so bring sunscreen!

Great trail! Took just over an hour roundtrip. Would recommend hiking boots as there are some rocky spots, but nothing too crazy. First half of the trail didn’t offer much shade, but the second half did. There was also some nice shade at the spring (exactly half way through). Only run-in with wildlife was a harmless patchnose snake.

Did manzanita to smith. Smith spring is very pretty. Easy trail. Minimal incline, decent footing.

For a short family friendly trail in Guadalupe Mountains this has it all; a small incline, beautiful spring, a less exciting follow up spring, and wonderful desert landscape.

easy-ish loop through numerous yucca and other desert plants, with the fossilized reef mountains as a backdrop. Fri-Sun most weeks the Frijole Ranch near the trailhead is open during the day for a bit of history on the area

This is an easy, family friendly hike. The trail is fairly rough for a small portion of the hike, mainly during your small climb up and down from the spring. The main point of the trail is the spring, halfway through the loop. It's a rare water source, with impressive foliage, very impressive, especially when you consider you are in the desert.

Enjoyed this trail a lot! Not too long and the spring is so super beautiful and clear. Great views of the mountains and plains as well without too much elevation increase.

I'd rate this as easy-moderate, due to the irregular footing and stepping over and around pretty big rocks in the trail. We followed the trail guide, giving descriptions of sites going counter clockwise, so that's the direction we followed. Once you reach the "oasis", it's magical! Cool, with refreshing air, and still gorgeous red and yellow maple leaves on Nov. 3.

Easy loop trail that has a beautiful shaded grotto with a spring and a flagstone bench about midway through. Saw three deer and a a bunch if javelinas. Peaceful hike, we’ll definitely do this trail again.

We traveled from the RGV parking lot along the foothills trail to smith springs. Very flat, yet enjoyable to be on flat trail versus two days of Rocky trails. Manzanilla spring was a bit dinky but amazed at people having settled out there. The hike to the smith spring was a bit more challenging than advertised. It could have been the previous hike in the morning. Regardless, smith spring was worth the hike, quite an oasis in the rugged terrain. Take your time and eat a meal while your there, very shaded and cool.

We went counterclockwise after reading prior reviews. It was a really beautiful hike. We had a small child so it took awhile. But the spring is a beautiful place to rest and have a snack.
