Hike to an old Ranch Ruins There is no trail to this location. You must visually spot the ruins from the River Road West, about 2.3 miles from the west end, and then hike cross country to the ruins. I've found that if you can get in the wash (about 2/10 from the road) and follow it past the spring and the ruins, it is much easier. Just about everything that grows in the Big Bend has a thorn on it; so find the wash, and follow it. On the return trip, I spooked a couple of javelina trying to get thru the thorny brush just south of the ranch site.
There is no trail to this location. You first need to drive east on the River Road West for about 2.4 miles until you visually find the ruins to the north (left) of the river road. Then, park and hike cross- country to the ruins. I've found that it is best to find the wash that goes to the ranch location, and follow it past the spring and the ranch to avoid the brush. Just about everything that grow in Big Bend has a thorn on it. I stirred out 2 javelina trying to get thru the brush just south of the ranch house.
