River Trail, Highlander, Hale-Bopp, Bat Cave, Drain Pipe, Acts of Faith, Sidewinder, California 56 is a 5.9 mile heavily trafficked loop trail located near Waco, Texas that features a river and is rated as moderate. The trail offers a number of activity options and is accessible year-round. Dogs are also able to use this trail but must be kept on leash.
Cameron Park is a fantastic system of trails used by mountain bikers, trail runners, hikers and walkers. Each trail is clearly labeled with a name and difficulty rating like that of ski slopes (Green, Blue, Black Diamond, Double Black Diamond), so you can easily pick the trails that are suitable for you. It is heavily visited but the size often lets you feel like the park is just for you. Recent renovations by the city of Waco have added restrooms, water fountains, eating areas, updated trail maps and activity guides. The park also has a full Frisbee golf course and multiple scenic areas overlooking the Brazos River.
River Trail is nice and flat, gets a bit steeper when you venture off. Would echo other people’s comments that it also gets a little difficult to navigate the maze of trails once you veer off River. Our dog had a blast, just watch for bikers!
Lake trial is nice and smooth. Highlander has a lot of elevation gains. So tough we left the tail for an easier way back. Very pretty though. Highly trafficked.
Great trail! Use your app frequently as there multiple intersecting trails.
Best trails I’ve been on in awhile. Great elevation climbs, beautiful river view and view of Waco. Not too crowded. Plenty of water and restrooms and a splash pad for cooling off near the parking lot.
We drove down from Dallas yesterday, and this trail system was awesome. It was well marked. This whole area was awesome for families. I was glad the trails were marked with the difficulty and that helped us determine our route. We also got the pleasure of seeing a few baby raccoons near the river. Can't wait to go back to try some of the trails we missed.
First time at Cameron Park. This place is a hidden gem for out-of-towners! The trails were a little muddy from the previous night’s rain, but that didn’t take away from the fun we had exploring. We got off trail a couple of times because we didn’t see any trail markings, but this app helped tremendously. If you have the time, don’t miss out on some of the offshoots from the main trails. Lot of fun.
We thoroughly enjoyed this trail. I agree with other reviews that the trail is not marked well. But, if you keep your alltrails app up on “Record”, it makes it easy to follow. We use it on every trail we hike. We hiked clockwise so by the end we were lining the river. The trail was a bit muddy and the rocks were slippery in some areas. If you are up for it, bring a bag to pick up trash. Sadly, we noticed quite a bit while hiking.
I've been using these trails for years for leisure as well as working out. There's a trail along the river pretty suitable for pushing strollers and biking, as you go up there's more advanced trails, few climbing opportunities. Trails aren't marked well but I'd be surprised if you lost track of where you are, it's not a huge place. Decent amount of trails to choose from, one of my favorite places to go in Waco.
Great trail once you get on it. The trail heads are not well marked. Kid friendly and shaded.
great trail can vary from one trail to another if you don't pay attention to the signs
This is a great trail. Second time doing it. One with my girlfriend and the second with my daughters. We had a blast both time. Great view!!!!
This is a very special trail. I was not able to follow the trail along the river all the way due to flooding but the rest of the trail was fantastic. You think when you go to a city park trail it is a walk in the "park", just leveled trimmed and wide. Not this one. I lost track of all the elevation changes and with out Alltrail I would have walked around in circles, there are 20 miles of trails and they constantly cross each other. And the views from the top of the cliffs are great.
