The trail itself is nice and well-maintained. Enjoy the shade while you can as only 1/4 of it shaded. Wildflowers are best seen mid March through April.

This is hands down the best hiking in central Texas. The top of the Rimrock trail was blocked today by a downed oak tree but I was able to scramble around it. They should have it cleared in a few days.

HikingGreat!

This trail is almost 100% exposed. It was fine in March but should be avoided in hot weather except for very early morning and late afternoon. Hiking sticks aren’t really required but we (mid 60s) we’re glad to have them in a few spots. You can see in the recording that we missed a turn at the 2.6 mile mark, adding a half mile to the hike. Pay attention.

HikingGreat!

Very pretty trail! I liked the diversity of the terrain. There was a whole mixture of rocky portions, uphill, downhill, grassy fields, creeks, cacti, forested areas. There's a nice uphill portion making it a good workout on the way up. My 4.5 year old was able to do the loop with a few breaks and a water bottle on hand. There was not much wildlife this time of year (December) but very pretty colors and views.

Nice afternoon hike. Much of the backside was scorched by recent fire. Not much wildlife or scenery.

The initial walk up the hill is a bit strenuous but after that it is an easy walk and has some scenic points.

Easy to moderate some inclined & narrowed areas. Kid friendly. Overcast day was nice 1/2 of the trail is open air, minimal woody coverage.

Great day on the trail. After some weekday rain the trail died out well and was extremely manageable. Excellent variation of terrain for all levels.

beautiful vistas, lots of purple flowers, little traffic, and not too hard! there is a lot of elevation gain at the start, but that’s about the most difficult it gets

A little overgrown in places, but a really nice, not too congested trail. With some cloud cover in August around 10 am, the heat wasn’t that bad.

The trail gets really narrow in places. I was glad for my hiking sticks to move aside the vegetation to see what I was walking into. I am always a bit concerned about surprising a rattlesnake out here! The creek has no water running right now. It was a nice hike and I appreciate the bit of elevation change.

One of my favorite hikes in the area. It has a primitive trail that is slightly covered. It can be a bit overwhelming on a hot sunny day. It’s great place for a hike for my family of teenage children

This trail isn’t easy, the first half mile is switch backs and rocky. Once you reach the top it’s pretty smooth sailing the rest of the way. Trail is more like 3 miles. Beautiful flowers everywhere in April. Lots of lovely limestone too. Challenging and fun.

Had a nice time with my 3 and 6 year old boys on this trail. I had some snacks and water with us so they would survive the entire way. We went clockwise around the loop which I was grateful for because the other side of the trail has several switchbacks and I think going clockwise probably kept the trail more entertaining for the kids though they probably wouldn’t know it. There are some nice views of the hill country at the top and, like almost all hikes, the pictures don’t really do it justice

Nice easy hike, would be good for families. A little elevation gain in the beginning makes for good views, and some beautiful wildflowers. Check out the Creek Trail, pond, old schoolhouse, and the bay boxes, too!

Great hike with beautiful views! Can add distance doing other trails at the top. Bring water, some shade but this trail pretty open to the sun. One thing, this area specifically says “No Pets Allowed” at entrance because it’s a national wildlife refuge. Came across 3 different peeps with dogs today, they were responsible with their dogs and didn’t see any poops along the trail but PLEASE leave your fur friends at home for this one. I love my dogs as much (maybe more) than anybody but they stay home for this hike ( probably why I don’t hike here more often) but regardless, please be respectful of the rules.
