Preston Ridge Trail is a 5.4 mile moderately trafficked point-to-point trail located near Addison, Texas and is rated as moderate. The trail is primarily used for walking and nature trips.
Preston Ridge Trail has magically transformed the Oncor-provided electrical right-of-way into a widely-used and nicely-landscaped trail corridor. Beginning where Hillcrest and George Bush Freeway intersect (which is also the boundary between Dallas and Plano), the twelve-foot trail extends south-ward along Meandering Way to Beltline Road where it travels briefly to the east before resuming its southern path and ending near Spring Valley Road (new eight-foot-wide sidewalks built by the City of Richardson along Coit Road at Haymeadow and Spring Valley now provide an almost seamless connection between this trail and the Cottonwood Trail). Funded by Dallas County and the City of Dallas, Preston Ridge connects with numerous schools and parks and includes an east-west extension that begins at Arbor Oaks and ends at Davenport. It has also been the beneficiary of tremendous community support which has lead to the planting of over 1000 shrubs, bushes, and trees and the construction of rest areas and entrance features. Preston Ridge establishes a key component in the County trail system so that it is now possible to travel from the County's northern border to the edge of downtown Dallas without a car, and it clearly illustrates what can happen when everyone works together.
Concrete trail weaving through neighborhoods and between high voltage power lines(for some reason this is common in Dallas). Many minor street crossings and about 5 major street crossings. I could not find a clear parking site for the trail. I used a parking lot in the strip mall on the NE corner of Franford Rd and Hillcrest Rd near Benny's Bagels
This trail is well kept and smooth. It crosses a few big intersections and some smaller, neighborhood streets. The north side has a cool wildflower area. There are lots of areas to sit and rest, not many are shaded. I park at Hillcrest, north of Campbell by the Campbell creek Rec center. Trails go east and west. West connects with the north and south Preston ridge trail. I love this trail!
It was a nice beginner trail to get me back into the swing of cycling again. It’s been about 10 years since I’ve consistently cycled and wanted to do it in a safe area which this trail is. A little crowded because everyone’s home and finding a way to get out but overall a very well kept trail.
