This is a soft pine needle trail with some roots and wooden boardwalk sections. The west side goes along the lake with some nice views. You start at the nature center on the Chinquapin Trail and connect to the Prairie Branch Trail. You can connect to the Dogwood Trail for a different route. The trails are well marked. Accessibility: There are several designated accessible spaces in both of the paved parking lots off of State Park Road 40 at the east end of the trail. Some of them are van-accessible with striped access aisles. The trail surface is soft dirt and pine needles with roots or a wooden boardwalk some with or without edge barriers and typically at least 6 feet wide. The estimated grade is mostly gentle (5% or less). All-terrain tires or motorized equipment may be needed for the surface type. There are benches along the route for resting.

RunningGreat!

The highlight of this trail is the lakeside. You can see the beautiful scenery of the lake. The ground dirt is soft so that you can easily hike around.

- The junction of Prairie and Chinquapin is swampy. One landmark is a wooden observation deck with a bench - Trails are well marked. Some areas have wooden patbways - Watch your step since it's easy to trip over tree roots that criss-cross the paved path

Half of the trail is hikers only. The other half bikers can ride. It was interesting seeing the marshy water. I was kind hoping to see an alligator but never did.

Nice easy short hike! We usually go to Livingston to camp, but that may change since the hiking is better here.

Great Trail! Paths are pretty clear and the views are rewarding halfway through the loop. Very peaceful and quiet. The trails have a lot of tree roots and sand along them. A plus for good trail footwork to advance the hike a bit and yet still easy on the knees for us persons of size! LOL Will be back again!

We just did the Prairie Branch Loop, the circular part of the trail which is 1.5 mi. It was me and my wife, our 7 yr old and 4 yr old, it was a great little hike. My 4 yr old ended up riding on my shoulders most of the time but our 7 yr old made the whole loop no problem. Was a great park and an enjoyable day trip. Odds are we'll be back again!

The 3.3 miles is actually two trails. Prairie Branch is 1.5 miles and Dogwood Trail is 1.8 for a total of 3.3. My fiancé and I did the whole 3.3 and it was great. Trail was in excellent condition and there was plenty of wildlife to see. Would definitely recommend.
