One of the best hikes in Texas. Beautiful and remote. In 2 days on this trail, we never saw anyone else except right at the visitor center. As with everywhere in this park, bring lots of water. The elevation gain on this hike is really challenging, especially in summer conditions.

The hike in (and out) through McKittrick Canyon was very pleasant, and easy. the rest of the trail was as tough as any I have hiked, but the rewards were sme of the most spectacular scenery i have ever seen. The eco-systems constantly change, both by elevation and depending on what side of the mountains you are on. absolutely amazing. Saw mule deer as well as Mountain Lion scat. Best hike ever! Also among the toughest I have done! Hard core hiking!
