Lone Wolf and The Dam Drop Trail Loop is a 5.9 mile lightly trafficked loop trail located near Fort Worth, Texas that features a lake and is good for all skill levels. The trail is primarily used for hiking, walking, running, and mountain biking. Dogs are also able to use this trail but must be kept on leash.
First time out to run this yesterday with my dog. He loved all the opportunities to get in the water. I loved the really technical aspect of the trails. I will say that it would take several visits to familiarize myself with the trail enough to "get in a groove" where I'm not stopping to check the map frequently. But I think this trail is worth that effort. Free entry, exceptionally nice people, good views, and gritty technical running = A+ to me! (Side note: I ran into a guy who said he was with MTB Project and he was out riding the trails to see what markers needed to be replaced, if that helps anyone feel more confident that they're trying to keep improving!)
Beautiful trail. Easy to moderate. There are several spots with loose rocks that are a little tricky to walk on. Wear good shoes! The trails are poorly marked.
This park is probably some of the best hiking you're going to find in DFW. It's not perfect by any means, but I think it is absolutely worth checking out. I wonder if you can swim in the lake in the summer. It's very pretty. My main complaint would be the crowded mix of bikers and hikers -- a lot of dodging is required. But I'm giving this 5 stars because it is top tier of what you will find in the city.
Moderately challenging for hiking, very challenging for mountain biking from a hiker's perspective. The eyesore of trash along the trail is becoming too frequent but it's not nearly as bad as the north shore trails at Lake Grapevine. Overall a nice couple of hours.
Poorly marked trail but fun nonetheless. I wouldn't rate this trail as easy but on the moderate side, esp with rocky inclines and steep declines. Pretty views of the water along parts of the route. Good time with pretty views and a good workout. Wear good hiking shoes!
Very nice. I brought two plastic bags to gather trash & they both were filled before I was even halfway through :( please throw away your trash Very pretty trail though, I had fun :)
It’s like San Francisco – lots of up-and-down, beautiful views, and it greets you with the strong smell of urine at a few spots along the trail. Trekking poles were a huge help! This is definitely a moderate trail, not easy. A bit challenging to find the beginning of the trail so we just walked until we ended up on the right one.
Loved the effort required and skill, and will definitely come back. A couple of stinky spots. Also, whoever marked this as easy is a sadist.
1st time using Alltrails software. Software navigation from "trail map" is pretty much worthless. The purple route is close to the actual route, but with so many turns at various points, one has to backtrack to get back closer to the purple trail which is for some reason always in the brush and sometimes makes wild turns where there are no trails to take. And distance on this one is nowhere near 2.1 miles. Mine came in at about 1.0 miles. Not good software for beginning hikers, and I doubt experienced would use this crap ware.
kinda crowded and be ready for 2 or 3 steep drops after a blind corner. challenging and fun though!
Got to hear the national anthem from the Naval station :-) lots of up and down. Great trail but people are leaving trash. Please clean up after yourselves
