Trail is in great condition and well marked. This time of the year is a good time to do this trail. Nice temperatures and weather. Finished the complete trail in 5 days of hiking to include the Stubblefield bridge out bypass.
The trail has some overhanging brush but nothing we couldn’t manage. Wonderful day to hike 10 miles.
Trail is in great shape along a waterway, easy to moderate, few downed trees, nice man-made water crossing.
I went over the weekend when it was over 100 degrees but with all the shade it definitely didn’t feel like it was that hot. Some parts of the trails were covered with leaves and some foliage but still obvious that there’s a trail there. This has been one of my favorite ones so I’m definitely gonna go back.
The big creek scenic area is full of meandering creeks, foot bridges, and tall trees.
Nice, simple, relaxing walk through the woods to Double Lake. Found it to be well marked and well maintained. Really expected it to be more muddy after all the rain we had yesterday but trail was fine. Wish we had packed a small snack or lunch to enjoy at Double Lake. Next time!
This is a very nice hike. The trail is quiet and we only met one other individual. There is a nice creek and the trail bridges it several times. The southern end has a few trail alternatives so you can do some short loops. We saw 3 wild boar and I have heard they are mean(but tasty ). Great spring flowers and butterflies too.
Absolutely fantastic trail for the beginner or if you think backpacking is something you might want to try. Its a short trail with a few loops that is part of the Lone Star Hiking Trail. It can be hiked in a couple hours so there is no need for a pack and gear. A walking stick or trekking pole and some water is sufficient which makes it great for the beginner or if you want to do a short nature walk. One of the loops will take you to Double Lake Recreation Area. Usage is light, trail is marked and well kept. Difficulty is very moderate, great for the kids too.
