Amazing hike! The American Beauty Berry bushes are insanely abundant. The white tailed deer are in heaven in this wilderness area!
Fun little trail, narrow and well worn which is how I like them. As people have pointed out, make sure you use the map/GPS at the southeast portion as it's easy to take the wrong fork and end up way out of your way. I clocked 6.9 miles here on my watch in 2hr20min at a decent pace. Pretty flat and unchallenging, some little scrambles up creek beds is all. There was a small pond maybe 2/3 of the way through that the dog appreciated a quick dip in.
Make sure to use a map/gps if you want to stick to this suggested 6m loop. The actual Little Lake Creek Loop Trail is much, much, much longer and if you follow the trail signage you will miss the go-back turn. I ended up hiking 12m because of this. Trail itself is well kept and beautiful. Unfortunately, smelled like piss at times; it’s probably all the pets people take with them.
The first part of loop was kinda like hiking a labyrinth, bit overgrown in spots, with weeds hitting your shins. The short West Fork trail section was good and curvy and ran parallel to a creek. But it was short and then I came around a corner a bit too quickly and almost stepped on a snake! He was mad and sat at the edge of the trail for 15 minutes until I got the nerve up to run by him. Once I got on the Lone Star Trail section on the way back to Parking Lot 1, there was a nasty thunderstorm the entire way. I pretty much splish splashed my way back to the car. Only saw one couple, and two men hiking the Lone Star Trail. Nice and quiet, well, except for the thunder and lightning. Will do again, just not on a day when rain is forecasted, haha.
