Katy Trail is a 7.5 mile heavily trafficked out and back trail located near Dallas, Texas that features beautiful wild flowers and is good for all skill levels. The trail offers a number of activity options and is accessible year-round. Dogs are also able to use this trail but must be kept on leash.
A popular, shaded, paved trail in the downtown area good for walking, biking, and rollerblading. In the off-season, crews regularly repair trails and bridges. Accessibility: The trail surface is paved, smooth, and typically at least five feet wide. The estimated grade is mostly gentle. Most wheelchair/mobility equipment and stroller users will likely find this trail navigable.
Great urban trail. We started at Mockingbird Station went down the Katy Trail to Victory Park and back.
Nice, well maintained urban trail built on railroad right of way. Good mixed use design. Trail closed due to bridge work just north of Snyder Union.
The north end is far quieter than the south end (where people coming from the Ice House often don't look where they're going - beware, especially if they are holding a leash across the path) if you're just looking for a quick run or walk. Several reports of criminal attacks early in the morning and late at night, particularly near the southern terminus. Fine during the day.
Paved and cushioned trail. Part of trail is closed but there is an easy detour. Beautiful run. Crowded but lots of space to maneuver
The trail is under construction but still had a great walk. Broke my PR today! Yay for me I’ll do it again once construction is completed maybe then I can do the full 7.5 miles each way.
I think this trail is amazing for walking or running. But it’s very busy given it’s right in the center of town, so I would imagine it would be a bit annoying for cyclists given the number of people to dodge. The pathway is paved and it’s quite wide too, so you can walk comfortably side by side with a partner. You can enter from multiple spots so you can pick how long of a walk to take. I like entering near Katy Trail Ice House and taking a left and walking to the end of the trail. It ends on that side downtown/by the American Airlines center. Good place to grab a drink before or after the hike is either Katy Trail Ice House, or if you don’t mind a bit of extra walking after you are off the trail, walk over to Happiest Hour.
Well maintained train, but VERY busy! I was bicycling, and I found our pedestrians to be on one extreme or the other: either they were very courteous, stayed to the right, and made room to share the trail - OR they ignored any vocalization of our intent to pass, spread across the entire trail, made no effort to share, let their dogs wander across the trail, and even downright blocked the path! I VERY MUCH appreciate our courteous pedestrians, and I look forward to more of them on other trails.
Great Trail but very busy after work hours. Nice to see people being active, biking, running, roller blading.
