HikingGreat!

This is a super short trail but one that I really enjoyed. It only took about 15 minutes round trip for me to make the hike down and back from the house and it is definitely worth it. It is in excellent condition considering it was built in 1945 and really gives you an idea of how the ranchers and farmers lived. There are warning signs for bears and mountain lions but outside of some birds, we did not see any signs of wildlife. The trail does branch off to some longer trails. The trail has a parking lot that overlooks the house and valley below. We went around noon and had no trouble parking. While there were some people parked to read the sign at the overlook, we were the only ones on the trail at the time.

A downhill walk to the ranch, which is in great shape. Also check out the sheep and goat pen behind the house.

Really quick hike down from the road to this foreman‘s house that was abandoned in 1945 where over 4000 sheep and 2500 goat grazed. Definitely a nice venture down to see how this land was purposed.

Easy trail, some high brush when you get to the flatland where things could potentially hide. I’d suggest going with another person to watch your back as there are mountain lion and bear warnings.

Hiking

Rated 4 stars for the history. Simple hike down to the valley floor to an old homestead. Always fascinating to get a glimpse of pioneer life. In this case, not that long ago. The hike will be harder for some because of the steep climb back out, but really doable by most.

First to Review

This trail is part of the Blue creek trail, and the Dodson trail. It goes now a hill to an old ranch house that can be seen from the Ross Maxwell Scenic Drive. If you are short on time, and don't want the do the Blue Creek or the Dobson trails. The hill you descend is not bad as you ascend on the return trip.
