Getting There

The trail gives you a bit of variety with easy double track switching to rough overgrown single track and back again. Throw in a little hill climb and descent requiring careful footing and you have yourself an interesting hike. There is plenty of opportunity to see wildlife. At the bottom of the hill you'll see an old watering trough. If you sneak up on it you may see several frogs who call it home. The final stretch will be along the road back to your vehicle. You should see several small structures left from the days when it was the Merrick Bar-O Ranch.

Such a peaceful place to hike! Not too difficult of a hike - just some elevation changes and rocky parts. I was able to do a combo of walking and trail running. Started early with plenty of shade from clouds and trees along the way. I recommend wearing high socks if you don’t like the feeling of grass tickling your legs!

This trail was relatively easy. Took a side trip to the Comanche overlook. Great views of the Hill Country if Texas. Made this hike in mid June. Weather was hot and the humidity pretty high. Recommend an early morning start and carry plenty of water.

Awesome trail.... moderate with elevation changes, well marked and clean. Remnants of previous ranch and oak oasis with good shade and birds during trail, great for viewing wildlife and just taking a breather to meditate with wilderness.
