Goat Island Preserve Trail is by no measure a four or five star trail like many of these reviews show. We hiked the trail on an October morning. First of all the main trail is, as a few other reviews said, really a gravel road. Sometimes the trees hangover the trail but mostly you are in the open. They have mowed a handful of offshoot trails into the brush with mixed results. There is no indication if the offshoot trails connect or dead end somewhere. The bugs, particularly mosquitos, really ruined the experience. The trail is in a low lying area with a lot of standing water or swampy conditions around the trail, i.e. mosquito farm. Additionally, the swampiness of the area creates a putrid smell.
