Hike up a desert valley and along the Upper sunset Trail. Park in area 1-5. Hike back on the paved road to the main road and head north. Enter the first arroyo on the right going east. Take the first trail to the left climbing out of the arroyo going north. Follow this trail north. The trail runs east of and parallel to the main road about 1.5 miles to the large covered picnic area. From the picnic area, take the wide rock trail south up the ridge line. The ridge line trail will bring you directly back to your vehicle, so watch for forks in the trail and do not get sidetracked.

We started crossing the paved road and walked by the side to the north, we took the trail at the first parking lot to our right. You also can cross the paved road, walk by the arroyo and reach the trail. This part of the trail is about 1.5 miles, well-marked, easy and in good condition, and is also used by bikers. You come back walking by the ridge of the mountain; this part of the trail is named Upper Sunset Trail. From the ridge you have a wonderful view of the Franklin Mountains and the Valley of the Rio Bravo, we sat on the benches for a moment and enjoyed the beautiful landscape. Natalia and I had a good time; we enjoyed a lot this trail.

We liked this trail but the red line on the map wasn't entirely accurate. We took the trail from end to beginning because we couldn't be bothered to find the exact trailhead. It was a nice moderate trail for the first half, but then when we passed the restrooms and campsites halfway, we couldn't find the trail where it was marked so we followed the dotted red line trail. It was okay but no elevation and we ended up following washes and the road to get back. It wasn't difficult, just not exactly scenic for the second half. We did really like the more difficult half, great views and well-worn path.
