This was an easy hike. Not too much terrain change and not too much elevation change. The weather was great - 50s with sun. It wasn’t heavily trafficked and therefore was quiet and serene. There were a couple of beautiful streams and on the backside of Enchanted Rock you can watch rock climbers. There were two public outdoor restrooms along the trails. Lots of shade so if it were summer, you would have plenty of spots to stop and rest.
Part of the trail was closed so we had to detour through the Turkey Pass trail, but it turned out to be fun between the mountains than the outer loop.
Awesome hike cool morning. Did the loop trail clockwise and at 4 miles there is a detour to turkey pass trail. Part of loop trail is closed. Otherwise great trail which took us 2.5 hrs. 5.4 miles.
more of an easy trail than moderate in my opinion but still nice. detours to turkey pass trail which i didn’t mind because i wanted to do both anyway, but it’s a slightly more moderate trail so keep that in mind when you’re planning
For such an interesting area, what a dull trail :( It's just a bunch of trees and prickly pear cacti on a flat and wide gravel path, with occasional mediocre views of the Enchanted Rock dome. The detour onto Turkey Pass was so much more interesting with varied terrain and excellent views, but this review is for the Loop and not Turkey Pass. In any case I'd highly recommend Turkey Pass over the Loop for these reasons. I also camped at the Walnut Springs area. There were fresh orange peels all over the campsite which I packed out (please don't train the animals to find food where people sleep), and it was noisy through midnight.
Great trail & supposed to be easy. However, please be aware that there are currently 2 detours on the trail (if you are doing clockwise, it’s gonna be the last 1,5 miles). It’s significantly harder than the rest of the trail, involves moderate climbing and some tricky trails. We were with a dog and would have preferred to know of the degree of changes/detours in advance. There’s some elevation that you have to climb. Be prepared. Or call the park in advance to see whether the detour is still in place. Also, reservations required to enter the park (you definitely need a printed copy of the reservation, so can’t just book on your mobile)
I went counter clockwise and the Loop trail had two detours. For this part of Texas, this park is a very beautiful area. In the evening watch for snakes on the trail as the days get cooler
