Walking

Part paved part dirt trail, good tree cover in April 2021. Saw 1 snake, bunch of lizards, red ant hills and one "wild" pig/boar. Not sure since it was scared off before we could walk very close to it. We enjoyed the river next to most of the south side of the trail, but the water runs slow and the bugs like that, I suppose.

Just a short introduction to the trail due to time constraints, but I’ll definitely be back. It’s a very nice walk through the trees, very good signage and facilities, and great views of the river. Turns to a well beaten dirt path a little ways in. Looking forward to more visits.

Applewhite trail is closed. You only get about 2.5 miles of hiking. The river views are nice. What trails are available, are fairly shady.

Expectation management: this is a nature area, not a State or National Park trail system. Most of the trails are paved or handicap accessible, so the trail isn’t difficult at all. However, it’s perfect for taking the dog on a walk or just getting out with family for some easy wildlife and wildflower viewing. Keep this in mind, and it’s a perfect trail system for what it’s intended to be.

Hiked a loop on Rio Medina trail. Not much to look at in January for nature. Cut the hike short because there must be a shooting range nearby which was a bit unnerving.

Hiked the Rio Medina loop...all is brown in January. Trails were mostly dry except for a couple soft spots easily avoided. There is a shooting range nearby which was a bit unnerving.

It was a nice short hike. My dogs enjoyed putting their feet in the water. Just hated the fact that there was soooo much poison ivy.
