The trailhead is more secluded as it is off the main refuge loop, watch out for potholes big enough to bottom out low-clearance vehicles. The trail rolls gently through ancient sand dunes that are now covered with dense yaupon and bayberry brush, with live oaks forming a canopy on the eastern side of the loop. A small rough side trail off of the main Dagger Point trail leads to a beach littered with dead live oaks that probably fell during Hurricane Harvey. Lots of birds and armadillos.

The “wildest” of all the trails on the refuge. The trail is close to the water but you rarely see it — this route takes you deep into wooded areas and to the top of a small hill for nice views.
