Absolutely beautiful hike, the scenery was awesome and it was so much fun for me and my GF. Just wish the signs were a bit better

Considering it’s Texas, this is a nice trail with some elevation. To get the trailhead, turn into the headquarters and take the road back behind about 3/4 mile down to park. I couldn’t find this at first. I didn’t think the trail was well marked, or this should be called something else. You follow multiple different trails and I took several wrong turns, even while looking at the map. You first follow Creek Bottom then Madrone/Cougar Canyon overlook. A few of the trails were closed off so you had to take other detours. Trail is all dirt/sand for the first few miles with lots of horse manure. Lots of rocks after about 3.5 miles too, so my poles came in handy. No water, but seems fairly shady should the sun be out. Saw an armadillo, 2 deer, and 2 wild hogs, who left after a couple mins of me standing still and turning around. Despite all of this, I’d still do it again now that I know what to expect!

Great trail!!! Rewarded often with beautiful views!! Trekking poles are very helpful on the climbs and descents. Didn’t see any water sources on the trail.

For Texas this is a very nice hike! My wife and I got up early and drove from SA and were done before noon, which was nice. Be sure to bring plenty of water as there is none on the trail.

Hiked trails early morning. Great elevation changes and nice scenic overlooks on cougar canyon, vista ridge and west peak. Boyle’s bump is now vista ridge trail. Bring plenty of water and snack. Saw old building of prior ranch. Get out and hike!

This park is much of the same throughout. Some good elevation gains in places. The West Peak Overlook was a great highlight at sunset.

Trails were nice and trash free. We went during the weekday and saw only 1 other person. I highly recommend printing off maps from this. The map you get at the ranger station is not much help.

Camping

400 acres with many different trails of different difficulties. It was a very good hike and the landscape was beautiful. My friend and I camped and hiked 12 miles and the very friendly park rangers helped us understand details of the map. I would recommend this hike to anyone.

Fun, moderate trail, that is not crowded, with good views of the valley below at higher elevation. Typical Texas Hill county fauna and terrain.

Hiked this one with my daughter some years ago. It was a pretty area, and challenging in places. My daughter chose the shortest of the mapped routes, since we were on a day trip. She learned a lot about topographic maps and what it means when the contour lines are close together that day!
