It’s a half mile each way of “nothin to see here”. We chose to walk back along the road.

The Coloneh Trail starts off in thick forest, surrounded by mature pine, sweet gum and oak, but a good portion of the trail intersects and follows a powerline right-of-way and old access road before veering off onto a more traditional trail right at the end. This was a bit disappointing and perplexing why this trail garners 4 and 5 stars, although the plus side was that this part of the park was very quiet on a busy cinco de Mayo and we saw nobody else on the trail. We also saw pileated woodpeckers, jays and rabbits. For a more natural setting and views of the lake, take the Prairie Branch or Chinquapin trails, just be prepared to see plenty of other people on the weekends.
